Cotswold Rods used to do a 2-part kit, (don't know if they still do?) part 1 was very slightly abrasive to remove scuffs etc, bit like T-Cut, second was a polish, rods came up brilliant.

Quiet by accident about 15 years ago, I discovered the best thing for "polishing" and cleaning rods, Sesame oil.
I'm not into giving rods a "polish" that will make them flash etc, and one day, I thought I would give my semi matt sheen rods a clean for once, I tried a little bit of sesame oil as it was all I had with me on the bank, I tried it on some white watermarks and it restored the blank to looking like brand new and the water marks completely vanished leaving a blank looking like brand new with just a nice sort of matt sheen,
And it only took a few drops of sesame oil on a small piece of kitchen roll to do 3 rods and it lasted months and another good thing, water just bounced off the rods when it rained etc. Just a tap of the rod handle when you picked the rod up to shake any drops on the blank, and it would be dry, ideal for when your packing up or stopping your line sticking to your rod and also, sesame oil will not taint your hands so much when it comes to handling bait etc unlike silicone and wax products.
Wish I had discovered this back in the 60's

RainX contains strong solvents which will damage the expoxy.

Why not use rainex on your rods

I use a product made for plastic dashboards and other plastic trim. Works great on all finishes of rods, matt, ground and varnished. It does make the ground rods look shinier. Stops water sticking to the rods. Don't use it on the handle though, makes it slippy.

Daft question I know - but does it put a shine on things? i've got matt finish rods the last thing I want is them shiny

Yes bud thats the one. Honestly the stuff is magic. It lasts forever too. Bottle of that and a micro fibre towel and you’ll be good for a long time

Look at ‘Showroom shine’
I originally bought it for my cars when I was younger. Now I use it on literally everything that needs cleaning. Mirrors, cars, tv’s and all my fishing tackle. Light wash down with warm water where applicable to remove dirt and once dry apply this. It’s incredible stuff it genuinely is!

I use Simoniz carbuna car wax. Gives a lovely finish and lasts a good while.

I like to look after my kit
Since I was a kid,I've used Mr Sheen or Pledge for example and had no issues using now and again to clean those rods up ,sometimes just a bit of warm water and a microfiber cloth is all that's needed....so
Has anyone tried Ceramic car polish on the rods ?
I like my kit spot on regardless of cost of it,they are tools but respected ..
