In reply to Post #27 Well I never...
I never knew all this sardine/herring naming either.
I've had my finger hovering over some bits on Aliexpress/baba a few times. I'd never considered fishmeals though. There are so many other far out interesting and different ingredients on there for sure.
I had wondered how legit some of it might be.... some of the order units being in kilometers and being sourced from Sardinia etc
Time for a coffee and another poke around the webstores

In reply to Post #27 And just to confuse everyone further, when a sardine grows up it can be called a pilchard. For hundreds of years, biologists have been painstakingly classifying planet Earth's fauna and flora just so that we can call things what the Hell we want Lol. This was highlighted recently on the news, with fish and chip shops flogging Asian catfish as cod or haddock. Blooming rascals !

In reply to Post #25 I never knew until I was told don't worry
I found out off TackleBox Gary, they sell a lot of dead baits in the shop. Apparently there is no such fish as a Sardine in reality. It's just that general name given to any small/juvenile fish from the Herring family.

I used herring meal in my latest mixes as AA didn't have any LT94
Those links look good although I think a 25kg bag would be wasted on me as it would about 4-5 years to use it all

In reply to Post #20 Quote... I found this in Italy that has herring meal 999 in 25 kg sacs. It's not sardine meal but it's very similar
Sardines are just young Herrings anyway mate. They are the exact same thing. Sardines are the name given to any young fish in the Herring family of oily sea fish.
It's the very high natural oil content in them that makes them so attractive to carp/pike. The specific reason that I hydrolyse Sardines & Mackerel. Oily fish.
Good find

In reply to Post #14 I had a quick look for you. Could not find sardine & anchovy. Lots of anchovy meal on there though. They do samples. 25kg minimum this seller.

Same seller does a lot of other meals. 25kg minimums on all. Quite a lot of stuff that you see in the UK all gets imported from abroad by the tonne anyway.

In reply to Post #14 When I suggested using what is available, I meant fishmeal not sweetcorn. I honestly can't see that substituting one fishmeal for another within a mix is going to be the deciding factor. If your most recent suppliers no longer stock it then it may well be discontinued. Even though the processing plants you mention still operate, it may be that regulations have changed meaning that particular products have had to be withdrawn. I remember using sardine and anchovy around twenty years ago from Quality Baits. It was a decent bait with other fishmeals, milks, birdfood, Robin Red etc. My best bait of recent years though has been a predominantly nut and bird food bait containing only about 6 % fishmeal. Anyway, good luck with your quest.
