I had one and i finally got it a couple of weekends ago
Not a monster fish, but a 33-35 lb mirror i named "balloon" because it is one of those fish with an all year full belly.
Been seeing this fish since i was a 13 or 14 yr old kiddo and went bass fishing there and she was already this size, i'm 27 now.

My targets this year were the grass carp in my local public lake and guess what ??? Had it out at around 18lb early hours of this morning.
Also like to have a mirror form there as it’s 99.9%commons
And also a canal 30 mirror be nice

I want to catch big fish of all types but I don't set my self targets. Just happy to catch something decent.
I had an angling mate who out of the blue started talking about targets, and insisted I must set my own.
That meant changing venues, one which was Sutton days only which meant going into a draw at silly o'clock each morning.
We eventually drifted apart.

Problem is anyone can poach fish a public river so they could now easily have been eaten moved.

It's nice to hear they're still about in public rivers, I'd like to think there are more of them too, river fishing doesn't seem that popular anymore other than for matches and bigger species, though I'm sure it happens on the quiet.
Mine came from a stretch of the Bridge Water Canal, there was a lovely stretch that for a few years threw big Perch due to the weed. Then along came the weed removing boat and that was the end of the Perch fishing there🙁
I was going to target a local day ticket to me last winter, the matches were throwing up 4lb Perch regularly. I went into the local tackle shop and the lad said maybe that was last year, they're over 4 now, 5lb nearer 6 is the new biggest 😱

Local river to me has massive gonks in there, as long as a hand.
Don’t know what the record is but I bet they are close.
Deffo not barbel either.

I can't imagine how big a 4lb Roach would be, as some of the ones I catch about a pound and half, I say to myself are 'massive' looking.

I've had some good fish over the years, but would like a 4lb roach, a 4lb rudd, a 15lb bream a 10lb tench,
a 40 lb carp, a 4lb crucian, a 10lb eel, and above all a 7 inch Gudgeon . 60 years in the game and still dreaming.
It's a bit like being an England supporter.

I witnessed a 4lb perch a couple of years ago and thought hell of a fish
And it was from a public stretch of river.

I have been catching a lot of pound and half Roach from the Severn, in beautiful condition, taking on a very bronze colouration this year, but still chasing that 2lber, when the weather sorts itself out.

Love a big Sergeant. They're all peas in a pod, same size, same year class, in the estate lake, which seems to negate the chance of a proper specimen, but there's always a chance and there's an incredible amount of them in there.

I've just come back from a lake that has Perch to over 5lb, on the last day I was told to use live baits instead of LRF....great  ....I'll be back!
My biggest Perch was just under 4lb but that was 30 plus years ago, a big Perch is a stunning fish

My Perch target is 3lb+ weighed, as I've had ones I'm sure were bigger unweighed, but now have access to a club estate lake full of them between 2.5 and 3lb. I was unable to keep 2 rods in the water with a lobworm on a maggot feeder last Spring. And caught a load of them on the waggler and maggot this January.
Been keeping an eye out for Carp on the same lake but no one tells me anything and I haven't seen anything.

I think they're the nicest Crucians in the country, proper high backed round bars of gold. The biggest I've witnessed is a 4lb 1oz I photographed and weighed for another angler, but not having one at all last year was a kick in teeth. I did have a shed load of 4lb Tench in the process though.
I just try to work with what I've got locally, so that means Severn fishing for Roach this Summer, as I found how to target them with better results over the last couple of years. Basically small halibut pellets.
