In reply to Post #6 These baits will still catch loads as do many much older baits, not sure about difference these days with so many fish meal baits but they are just good & will always be so.

In reply to Post #15 Another thing to take into consideration is that capelin meal is nigh on impossible to source. I think Rollin Baits are (or were) the only company to import it into the UK and even then they used it all when making the original BFM they rolled.

In reply to Post #14 Be interested to know what mix that was.

In reply to Post #13 Your not wrong at all. The bait that was put up for sale was a diluted version of Daves original mix.

In reply to Post #11 Yes, the Financially viable, commercial Market BFM version.
The Podcast one Dave Moore talks about was his preferred original ( more milk protein content I though it was 40-50% milks maybe... I COULD BE WRONG HERE ) version, which I Believe he had made for his preference, such was his faith at the time in the high quality and expensive milk proteins. But would never be profitable to bring to market.

In reply to Post #11 I haven't bought a bag of basemix since the 90's but didn't Nutrabaits put the ingredients on the bags? To me that post of the original recipe looks about right from what I remember of the 2 or 3 bags I get then.

In reply to Post #2 Is this really the original BFM recipe? If so I'm a bit confused, as I'm sure that Dave Moore said on a podcast that he didn't regard BFM as a fishmeal bait and that there was a higher percentage of milk products in it than fishmeal. The name literally meant it was designed to catch big fish and Dave believes milk protein is more important in a bait than fishmeal.

In reply to Post #9 I remember him adding extra robin red but saying the defining factor was the pre-digested fishmeal.

In reply to Post #8 Yes that was the one, he did mention that it may benefit from adding some black pepper eo and some n-butyric acid. I missed that bit out.

In reply to Post #7 Thanks Scaley. I think it was that exact recipe. In one of his posts on the original thread I'm pretty sure he mentioned that if he did fish with it again he would add some black pepper eo and some n-butyric acid

In reply to Post #1 Possibly this recipe....taken from an old crafty carper mag article by Ken
350g Big Fish Mix
50g Liver Powder
40g Krill Extract
40g Pre-Digested Fish Protein
15g GLM
5g Betaine HCL
The bait was fished totally unflavoured. Hope this helps.

In reply to Post #5 Because it's different?
BFM always worked well back in the day (original recipe). No reason it wouldn't now.

In reply to Post #4 Rocket fuel was invented to fuel rockets, because lard wasn't as good. Why go back to putting lard in your rocket.

In reply to Post #3 I think using the original recipe would be an edge nowadays tbh. Literally every fishmeal bait recipe contains LT94, CPSP90 PDFM and Krillmeal. Although considered lower quality fishmeals, the old ones are offering them something different to what anyone else is likely to be using, unless of course they can't tell the difference lol.

In reply to Post #2 Thank you. Ken added copious amounts of liver powder, glm, extra robin red, and most importantly predigested fished which was new at the time.
