I have a cat and although i dont keep him in the shed but what i do di is keep a bag of his used cat litter in the shed I think the smell of cat keeps them away

Sounds like you have learnt an expensive lesson there. With rodents, by far the best policy is exclusion. Look at sealing your garage door with a rodent proof sealing strip / threshold. Seal any holes in the brickwork / mortar. Look at where the top of the wall meets the roof and seal with mesh if necessary. Many will advise the use of various traps and god forbid poisons, but if the rodents can't gain access then you don't need to deal with them. Oh, and close up that trailer just in case 😃 .

I feel your pain. I've had so, so much kit destroyed by mice over the years. In fact, other than rods and reels, I'd say it was the reason for the majority of my tackle purchases over the last thirty five years.

These traps are brilliant and very easy to set, always have one each side of my bivvy at night and rarely blank, might be worth leaving some in the garage.

Jic of interest to anyone reading this, the roller bucket trap, catch then release a LONG way away. Sadly, I always stack my buckets inside each other with all the lids in the top one. Maybe residual smell attracted them but I had 2 mummified mice come the spring. The little buggers had eaten through 2 of the lid lips tho!

You have my utmost empathy, I bloody hate mice, and rats with a passion. Bloody vermin to be exterminated at every opportunity. I've had a house infested by both, and been bitten by rats. Get a terrier to use your garage as a kennel.

I am absolutely gutted, just been out to the garage to dig some gear out for the first time since last year. My gear is stored in a locked sealed trailer in the garage. The garage isnt mouse proof but the trailer is.
The shock on my face to see that the trailer door was still open and not locked and as per the title of the thread, yep the mice had made a new home in the trailer. There was no bait in the trailer but that doesnt seem to have made any difference and they have chewed though thousands of pounds worth of gear.
My only saving grace is that my main tackle bag, rod bag and bait boat are in the house. But almost everything else is ruined. 3 bivvies and 2 umbrellas all with holes in them. Numerous rucksacks, bags, rod bags ,unhooking mats, chairs etc loads of spare, top end gear that i was going to thin out this year. Anything they wasnt able to chew now stinks of mouse piss.
Let this be a lesson that they might only be smalll but they will do serious damage give the time. I cant beleieve what they have chewed though even leaders and stuff they have got their teeth into.
