Lots of areas have bans on wood fires. Best check before spending any money.

I too am glad I have hearths. They're always been covered over in the 25 years I've been here but I'm hopeful I could get them back into service if needed. I think I'll scope it out next time im decorating. Good chance theres a gas shortage looming so return to coal or wood fire might be worth planning ahead for

Just put a slice of bread on top of a closed NGT or Ridge monkey ,it'll toast spot on ,keep heat down ..

I have an open fire ,it's all we have during the storms ,Goretti ...we lost power ..Still cooked our t,on the open coals and wood from dead fall...note ...never buy a property without hearth ,or open fire ....I note all new lego box homes are fully electric ..

Big mistake ,as gubberment don't want you to be self reliant..( just saying )

During the 70’s in the days of gas fires
We used to use a knife In between the bars and grill plaques then stabbed a slice of bread onto it and toasted that way.
If you can do it this way without burning you can cook a slice of toast on almost anything lol.

Thanks everyone, I tried the ridge monkey but kept burning the toast, maybe needed to turn the heat down a bit, but I've gone for the Ibili camping toaster, which shoud be here today, I'll let you know how I get on..

That toast looks good, and your egg poaching skills look excellent 👌🏻

Just use a ridge monkey to toast the bread. Once toasted, butter and off you go. Both the pics below are by using the RM compact toaster on the bank in France last September.

Poached eggs on toast

Full English with toast ( last couple of days so ran out of bacon and on the bacon grill)

Someone last year suggested the Ibili camping toaster. On the strength of that, I bought the Go Systems version which looks identical. Makes lovely toast 👍.
