Depends on the line and the reel itself. Amazingly I had to take out all washers on mine to get a decent line lay on 0.40mm line. I have to add it again if I spool up 0.26mm braid.

Bought some new Daiwa 25 QDs and the line lay was terrible out of the box. Would bulk up line totally on the front end of the reel. I was so annoyed that I sent them back without even to try to correct it with washers.

No don't need to change them from brand new. Should have 1 grey/white washer on as standard.

I first had a set of these 20 odd years ago had them for 15 years and always regretted selling them. Decided to buy a brand new set as got a deal from Total fishing tackle. Anyway come to put line on them and in the box they come with 5 spool washers in a bag. I cannot remember if I needed to add any of these, for some reason I think I did add one before and they were perfect. Don't really want to be filling one up to find out then have to take it all off again. If anyone knows whats best, should I add one or not add any at all? Thanks.
