Thank you for the replies.

I put it all together yesterday and ran it up and down my(on a slope) drive a few times loaded and it all worked as expected, so that was good.

I still think that there should be no issue to switch from lead-acid to lithium, provided the lithium battery supplies the same voltage and current upon demand as the lead-acid, however from the replies, there has been a controller failure, for an unknown reason, so possible risks remain.

I was not aware that once the green light comes on, it still needs to remain on charge for around 12 hours, so thanks for that info.

For now I will take a chance and continue with the original battery and fingers crossed it can hold a charge for a reasonable period when I get to use it at the end of March.

You do realise (I didn’t initially) that with the lead acid batteries that once the light turns green you have to carry on charging it for at least 12 hours? I have a mk6 and was in a similar position, didn’t use it for years and then when I needed it the battery was rubbish. Anyway, long story short, did some research and discovered that when the green light comes on it’s actually in ’trickle charge’ mode and not fully charged, anyway it’s been fine ever since, just make sure you give it the extra 12 hours every time and the cycling (charging/discharging) brings the battery back to life, unless it’s completely ****ed of course 🤣

From the battery maintenance guide:

Charge your new battery for 12
hours before use. A battery can
require up to 6 cycles of charge/
discharge before it reaches its
optimum performance. Always
re-charge for a minimum of 12
hours after use.

I bought an ALTechnologies battery for my Mk8.
First trip out the control box failed. May be a coincidence may be not, I dont know.
£170 for a replacement and I'm back to lead acids with no issues.
Weight isn't an issue as the whole thing goes into the back of my van.

I've got a MK8 24v power porter with an AI Technology lithium battery pack. Both were bought brand new last year.

The weight saving is obviously one of the biggest attractions, but the best thing I've found is the increase in torque. One of my syndicates is up a 45° slope from the car park to the fishery... With the lead acid it would struggle towards the top, and run out of puff! That doesn't happen anymore since I went over to the lithium battery pack. The power stays constant.

Mines been on the barrow about 12 months now, no issues and I've barely had to charge it.

I have the mk6 24v and recently bought a Lithium battery off the forum for it and works fine, the battery is lighter but I don't note a big difference when using it.

I have a Power Porter Mk7 with the 24v battery. It was lightly used, but I've not actually used it now for maybe 4 or 5 years. Battery is stored in the garage and I occasionally charge(maybe once or twice a year)
The last year or so when I have charged it, the charger suggests it's almost always fully charged as the green charged light comes on within 5 minutes of plugging in.
I would have expected that the battery would have discharged over time.

At the moment I don't have the possibility to run the barrow to see how far the barrow will go/hold its charge, nor do I have anything to determine the state of the battery.

It was new in 2019, so since its coming 7 years old, I am thinking a new battery would be necessary.
My question is, how many people have switched from the 24v lead acid battery to a 24v lithium battery, such as those available from AI Technologies and never had an issue?

I know Carp Porter warn that Lithium batteries should not be used, but I wonder if that warning refers more towards cheap(poor) lithium batteries that were around in the market at that time.

I am interested in the significant weight saving the AI battery offers, just a bit nervous of making the switch, so any real experience welcomed.
