So the aviators were the natural successor to the TE's in terms of how Harrison developed them.

I have 12"6' Torrix TE's and they are a great all rounder with enough in them to cast at a decent range as well as forgiving enough under the tip. I read a really good summary of them once (maybe on here) which said they were the perfect for fishing between 20-120 yards, which i would say sums them up great. They have a soft tip section which helps when playing fish close in.

The aviators are extremely similar but with a bit more backbone in them for getting to distances easier then with a Torrix TE. However there is small compromise in terms of they a a touch more pokey close in and when playing fish.

I dont think you will wrong with either as a all rounder... probably just consider what ranges you will or could fish in future

Well sir I fish at not much past 70 yds but my old Armalite 12 2 1/4s had become very sloppy over the years.

I needed the same range without giving it the "Beans"
Also fishing with bags etc.

Shortlist was
Century FatboySlim
Harrison Accurix
Harrison Aviator Flex

In the end went with the flex as they are the most current rod they have a full carbon weave and split the difference very well.
And the FBS actually felt uncomfortably slim on the second innings..

Lot of good reviews on here just run a search, but i dont often need to strap on that 2 3/4 oz lead and look for an 80yd cast..

Thanks for your replies.

I have read about the 12fts feeling a different rod compared to the 12.6 I think some rod builders had commented on previous threads.
TBH not mega ranges, I would say I can fish comfortably currently upto 120 yards with my current rods (greys aircurves 12 3.25tc).
I’m not looking for an out and out distant rods just something to be made up and keep as a personal touch and be used as an all rounder.

Ive a pair of 1f2ft 3lb 2oz test Aviator Flex currently being made up.

Obv no chance to fish with them yet but they recover super quick felt soft enough to play fish on (Sold as a Through action but needs a good amount to get them there)
Certainly much more in the tank if ever needed to steer a fish away from snags etc
Not sloppy felt nice and crisp.

What sort of ranges you looking at fishing..?

I have never used the Torrix 12.5 TE but I do currently have the 12.5ft Aviators which are in my opinion as near to the perfect rod as you can get. They cast like a dream yet are equally at home on very small waters. Whilst the action is nowhere near a through action they are beautiful to play fish on and not too stiff to pull the hook out close in. Just to note the 12ft Aviator is an entirely different rod and I found it to be too stiff for me.

Hi all

I’m after some advice on blank options.
I’ve had a play with a mates torrix’s 12ft 6 TE and found them very comfortable to cast and play fish on, but have been looking at the aviators in the same length. Are these an improvement on the Torrix in terms of playing action and casting? Or am I just thinking because it’s a new model that it’s an improvement on what is already a top end rod when in actual fact it’s not?

Any help or personal experiences are welcomed.
