I wouldn't swap my ventec for anything,my winter bag before that was an old wychwood maximiser (I think it was called)..it was down filled, heavy and massive and not that great at keeping you warm.

I have the Fox Ventec XL bag which is just luxurious and OTT but warm no matter the weather ( yes, I have been at - 3 or -4c and not really noticed it but tbf I have an MF60 and a Fox Vrs cover over it and I'm still in the first 'summer' layer, it was frozen over the bivvy the other week and I didn't realise it was so cold until I got breamed at 3am and found the bivvy was heavily frosted.

Get any half decent bag and chuck a decent cover and it'll see you through the winter NP at all.

I have the new Trakker 365 camo, really pleased with it.
I’m 6’4” and really appreciate the extra foot room they have built in.
Have used it several times this winter, at temps down to -3 and it’s really cosy.

Curiosity got the better of me
My Trakker bag is neither I thought to be, it's the Big Mother Duck Down bag...I might have known it would be I can't see a rating on it but it's got to be a 5.

Sure it's a Trakker, if you're right probably the reason for the Trakker fleece cover/topper, was it called peach skin? I know I have the bag, Mrs uses it for camping at times, I'll have to dig it out and see, would be funny to have my army arctic, the trakker and ventec next to each other, Ventec big

The big snooze bag is a 4 season bag at best I think.

Wasn’t the big kipper a hutchy bag?

The 365 gets a lot of good reviews, I was looking at the Fox Flatliner X bed combo on here last year (or was it this year) it comes with the new Ventec and a lot of the posts were recommending the 365, and quite a few the Fortis.

Not sure Wayne, I'm fairly sure it was the big kipper I was using on that cold night, but I also had the Big Snooze was it, 1 of them had that annying zip that ran middle top half way down. That was the coldest night I've ever fished and I was cold due to stupidity, I went to bed in a 1 piece thermal. When I realised I was getting very cold I stripped off to tshirt & boxers got back in the bed and was at least warmer.....but...then the Chub (yes Chub) decided to play, all 5 & 6lb of them, I ran out of the bivvy and within less than a minute I was shaking uncontrollably I had to put the rod down, get changed then play the fish in. I made the mistake of leaving the net on the mat and withn a few minutes they were welded together with ice....much cursing ensued. Thought I'd make a brew, nope, water frozen, milk frozen..what a night, it was gloriously beautiful in the near full moon, almost daylight.

The most vivid memory, lying in bed, head torch on looking at my breath going up to the roof, freezing as it went up, only to come back down and settle on the sleeping bag.

Vossy, sounds like that was the V1 365 as the new one has only been about for 3-4yrs I think. I feel the cold badly and have never been cold in the newer 365 bag down to -4

Well he who fishes in -12 is a braver man than me !!

Na just looking for average winter nights of -5 \ -6 to cover early Dec Jan and Feb just to avoid taking the extra duvet !

I dont think a 5 season fishing bag is a true 5 season bag anyways, where the 5th season is a Scottish Winter and would typically be a Rab mountaineering type and Down filled

Ive had the original ventec which was huge. The one i have now is the xl ripstop version which more compact than the original and fits in my cotswold carryall. Its a dedicated 5 season bag with no removable inners and the same material as the fox bivvys so totally waterproof. I dont fish anymore so it just gets used for sleep overs in the house and who ever has used it comments on how comfy it is when your in it. I even used it in summer and either slept on top of it or had it fully open and was so comfy lying on it. Its ridiculously warm and if you get cold in it then your more than likely dead.

Got to say I don't agree, but it's horses 4 courses. I've been out in -12 in Feb in the mid 0's and even with a Trakker fleece topper I was only just warm. I also had a Trakker big snooze & big kipper, sure I have 1 of them somewhere, and while good they aren't a patch on the Ventec.

Warmth in bags or clothes is down to air space & retaining warmth, and that's simply down to air pockets which = bulk in artifical fibres, or creating bulk with down.

I had the ventec, but it was too bulky. The trakker 365 is less bulky and is plenty warm enough for even the coldest nights.

Trakker 365 is a brilliant all year bag as you can remove the liner in warmer weather.

I’ve also heard that the cyprinus magmatex is a brilliant bag with a similar concept of removing layers. (If you can find one)
