I found that putting your rod up against the side wall of your boat and using the outside of your
Leg to gently feather the line on lip of your spool as you return works well.
Served me well on a recent trip where I had to conserve battery on my motor for getting all my kit back too the van at the end of trip.
Heavy lead is essential.

If there's a wind even a motors not going to stop your line drifting unless you use a really heavy weight and reel drag, and then you've got to be hopeful there's little in the way of bottom detritus for your line to get caught around unless using intermediate floats to get over it.

Just take it easy and don't panic. I personally like to drop off the back of the boat, oars along the boat in the holders, if you drift a little so what. Open bale arm, reel on its side, row back. At the bank rod as high as poss, take in the slack until line is as taught as you dare without dragging the lead, and/or pointing at lead. Jobs a goodun.

Should your line not be pointing at your leads, does it matter...imo no, unless end tackle is near snags, or there's something like a mussel bed in the way. Your in that position because you used a boat, the same boat that can get you out of that predicament.

Seconded, not fun trying to row a rod back in a straight line, its hard enough with a motor if there's a cross wind

Use very heavy leads so you do not move that lead. Get out to your spot, on the swim side of it. Make sure the boat is stationary when you drop. It's far better to use small paddles and go forwards doing this, not row backwards.

After you drop, with an open bail arm, gently with one oar, get the boat moving slowly swim bound while holding the rod in your other hand feathering the line. As you then move, lay the rod down with tip out the back, reel sitting next to you. Slowly paddle in a dead straight line back to your swim. Watching the line slowly peel off as you go.

If you are using three rods on a spot. Middle rod come back dead straight to the swim. LH rod go out very slightly in an arc on your way back in. Same with RH rod the opposite way. The lines will come back, but you wlll not then overlap your lines and cause some carnage if there's any weed about.

Hi will be visiting a place for the first time where boating out rigs is essential. I don’t have a motor so will be rowing out dropping the rigs and back with the rods.
Does anyone have any clever tips for getting back without getting the line in a mess / moving the lead etc, considering I’ll have both hands on an oar?

Cheers
