I tried float fisher cockles for carp many years ago and couldn’t get a sniff. Luncheon meat was always far more effective

My brother is a match angler and he went to a lake in Rugley last week and there was a match the day before they (him and my other brother)hardly had a sniff on pellets, soon as they switched to mussel meat on the hook and mashed up into a pole pot they were having a fish a chuck, think he said he had over 60lb of fish.
I think sometimes they get wary of being caught on the same things constantly they see it as danger and are wary of it and something a little different can be a game changer

I have tried the small 'seafood' mix you can get from supermarkets on a couple of occasions many years ago. You get a mix of mussels etc in them. Can be a little soft but easy ways around that.

On the first lake, a very old 15 acre estate lake with very low carp stock and a 'boilie' ban, all I had was Tench. I seem to recall a friend had maybe one carp on them and a few bream but we both then lost fishing rights as the lake changed hands.

Second lake is a 20-30 year old 7 acre farm lake. I had done well on my own boilies but fancied something different on one rod. All I had was a pike! Boilies carried on working so ditched the seafood.

I use raw prawns for perch and I know in my local club lake some perch anglers get the occasional carp on them even in the margins in the depths of winter. Again a bit soft but as I tend to use them float fishing at close range not an issue for me that I have needed to do anything about.

Don't forget Cockles. They're all great baits, free lining they're hard to beat. If you want to ledger them may be best to mesh them, espesh Mussels as they're a very soft bait.
Tench in particular love Mussels but I dont think many fish can resit them. Cockles are tough little buggers in comparison to Mussels, I prefer them threaded on the shank of the hook.
