I went with a 25mm ring set on my twelve foot rods (10 plus tip) and haven't regretted it one bit.

In reply to Post #1 I’ve got 30mm on my snipers and find them great, even with fluro.
If you search “Kev Baynes” there is some good info on ring sizes.

In reply to Post #1 Would you mind sharing an idea of the build and rough cost you might go for?
because I asked a different builder about some custom retractables and was quoted £245 a rod based on buying 3 for what I thought was quite a basic build (jsw/40mm ring set and gun smoke trims) which put me off entirely.
Thanks

In reply to Post #6 I also have 8 + tip on my rebuilt Amorphous - the bend through the rod is superb.

In reply to Post #6 Or basketball hoops?

In reply to Post #6 Yep, If you're going the custom build route might be worth asking the rod maker for a river type ringing pattern v a Carp rod pattern, that's what was suggested for mine by Mark Tunley.

In reply to Post #5 Spot on ,I got 9 eyes on my Armalites ,when yr playing a fish you can see that lovely curve ,you won't see that with less eyes on modern rods ..How long before we see 60mm or 70 mm butt eyes ..

And it looks much better too, not to mention being better for the bend in your rod.

Agreed, I have a couple of sets with 30mm rings, no issues whatsoever.

Have decided against getting some quickdraws and think i’ll go down the custom retractable route as Chiltern aren’t a lot more to get a set built to my spec. Am thinking about getting 30mm ring set instead of the usual 40 on the rods. I don’t cast far and you can use a bait boat on my syndicate. Would 30’s be okay? I’m my head they’ll be fine but have spent so long looking at rods where larger rings seem the norm and i’m beginning to question myself.
