In reply to Post #12 Very thorough, thanks.
It's helpful for everyone to understand what's being used

In reply to Post #8 Fox 12-30lb tapered mono lines. The only thing that I can cast apart from this that far is the Korda spod braid - but that floats and I need a shock leader.
14mm hookbaits on approx 6” hook links on a heli setup on 4ft of 50lb fluro.
Ultegra XTB 14000 reels about 10yrs old.
4oz, 4 1/4oz, 4 1/2oz leads no discernible difference. 5oz lead a few wraps less. Korda tournament shape.
The distances I mention cast on still days. Head wind makes a big difference. Cross wind a massive difference. Tail wind obviously helps.
The water I have been on I regularly fish at 38+ wraps in all but the worst conditions.
Anyone can cast long distance - practice makes perfect.
That enough info for you?!!

In reply to Post #10 I was struggling to hit 26 wraps and hit the clip properly.
This was with 18lb esp syncro xt which is 0.40, torrix 12' 6" te rods and a 4oz lead.
I put some braid on and could hit 30 wraps, 40lb china braid, no shockie but the braid was quite a bit thicker than the stated diameter, my micrometer says about 0.35.
Well behaved braid when casting but a bit too floaty.

In reply to Post #9 160-170 yards for me is 12lb line .32 and a shockleader , never dropped below or tried below 12lb mono.
That’s a baited rig and spombed over, that was on the bowl. One lad on there was getting closer to 200 yards with a rig was amazing to watch

I have 13ft century fma 3-5's and can hit close to 40 wraps with 0.33 tapered mainline baited rigs on helicopters in not the most ideal conditions. ie, without a big wind behind me, If I used the gemini leads I could probably do this easier and maybe even go further . Personally I think this is great.
A huge advantage of the Century FMA design is that they are not ultra stiff broom handles like most distance rods, they have a parallel blank design ( bottom section) with a softer ( think 3 lb) top section, big distances yet a great playing rod which may actually be unique to the design of these rods.
So many people talk BS when it comes to distances and are using a 0.28 line or a thinner braid....
Fess up time for all the big casters below now...

In reply to Post #7 Are those distances with mono straight through, or shockie and lighter mono?
Mush easier if posters would add the extra info so we mere feeeble mortals aren't left feeling inferior and embarrassed

13ft Shimano TX7 Extremes. For a record breaking casting rod they are very forgiving both playing fish and in casting technique. If you can't stretch to the TX7 the TX2 are almost as good.
I can hit 40 wraps bait on, with no wind, with my 12'6 Torrix TEs (I have custom built long handles which makes a huge difference). With the TX7s I can hit 45 wraps with a bait on. But the main advantage is that they make casting anything over 30wraps so much easier than the TEs.

In reply to Post #1 The 13 foot Trubuchet UFR is by far and away the longest casting rod i have ever used.
It literally added 30 yards to my furthest ever cast.
If you know how to cast and can truly compress a rod, they are in a different league.

In reply to Post #1 The century c2 d was what I ended up getting.
Well worth a look
Easier for me to get distance and accuracy than the treb lites

13ft Trebuchet Lites are a great distance rod and suit my casting style. But not sure how much further they will cast than the TE’s which are a good casting rod anyway?

If you are looking to spend Harrison/Century money then you really need to find a way to give some rods a chuck to see how they work with your casting technique.
For out an out and out casting rod the Trebuchet 13ft UFR is probably the one, but only if you can get the most out of it. You are also paying close to £500 for a rod that is horrible to catch a fish on.
After having a go on the Korda Green 13ft 4lb rods I would be really tempted by these if I needed some pokers.

In reply to Post #1 Hard to beat shimanos for the price. I use tx7 13ft and there way more capable than me. I can get them 160-170. But so are the tx2s , awesome rod for the money.
Never tried the Korda greens but if i was abusing them week in week out on a big pit again I’d happily try them.
Not keen on spending 3-£400 a rod to thrash them weekly. I no it’s a tool for the job but all the same it’s alot to potentially snap one

Hi all,
Just joined a water where distance is essentially everything (for most of the time) - 90 acres, windswept and fishing as close to the out of range zone as possible (300 yards away).
I have Torrix TEs 12.5 which have served me well and can do upto 150 yards. Test curve I think is between 3.25 and 3.5lb
However I would love some recommendations for out and out casting rods/tools - looking at the Harrison and Century offerings but theres quite a few to choose from, so any experience based advise would be great.
Will be fishing them with Basias and 12lb tapered mainline.
