They can be very effective and have been since the 60s / 70s.

I always used them sparingly on spots I could see carp using, I didn't want to waste them on Bream, Roach etc being expensive!

A number of fish meal baits also contain them, who can forget the Premier Baits Fish Base Mix.

I always try to include milks in my mix at the oft quoted 15%. I think my catch rate has increased and thus gives me more confidence. Not sure a full on milk mix would be my thing as I would definitely cut it 50/50 with a yellow bird food mix.

Deffo worth looking into , I used milks to great effect on a notoriously hard lea valley pit.

Depends how you quantify 'better'.

I think one of the big things milks have going for them these days are that no one really uses milk baits anymore. That with the fact that the fish you are trying to catch have probably never seen a milk bait (unless they are 30-40 years old) and so respond to if because its different. So they could well catch you more fish if that is the better you are talking about.

Milks are not always very digestible although more modern hydro milks address some of this issue. I would still suggest a well thought out mixed nutrition source boilie would be slightly more healthy for a carp over a 'pure' milk bait.

The expense is often partly negated by the fact that many that use them find they can use a lot less, some swear half as many is plenty.

Personally I haven't rolled a milk bait since the early 90's. Seeing the likes of what Sam at Optibaits is doing with them makes me interested but I simple do not have the time to keep trying new baits so will stick with my current baits that have limited milks in them rather than 'invent' yet another mix I don't have time to fish with

are milk proteins worth the expense? Are they any better than a decent fishmeal?

I was just browsing as you do and saw OptiBaits new milk base mix which is nearly £200 for 10kgs and whilst I know milks are expensive I just wondered if they were worth the high cost? I’ve never used a high milk content mix, I’ve always used fish meals.
