In reply to Post #6 We all know the club. Its still pegged like it was when it was a trout lake. I had some gormless n*b head (modern 'carpa' dimwit, tattoed up prat, crocs, shorts and zero personality) set up next to me. Went to speak and he blatantly ignored me and just cast out with no regard of where I was casting.
The lead max is a joke too. Upped it 0.5oz (lol). Its guys thrashing the casts as the lead is too small causing crack offs yet the cloth capped mentality dont really understand modern carp fishing and impose half baked rules on their waters that the club are still slow recognising are now dominated by guys for the most part carp fishing!
Anyway away from your question -stick to the tapered as do I for safety. Never had any issue with crack offs. You need the right reel, rod but what I use may not suit you as my technique suits me alone. I dont follow the arms locked out as im a lanky streak and my long arms waver like mr tickles so my natural stance is bending arms slightly but I do stomp into the cast. Im not as good as some in the distance stakes but theres also accuracy.
FYI -im on Hi S 2000 13ft, Basia 45 SCW or Shimmy tech reel. Lead clip or Solid bag. That solid bag can increase weight so will help with distance though you need the power to launch. Can be painful if accuracy is off and need to re sort bag.
I was using my more user friendly Hi S ive 13ft but I was not getting distance.
Guys love the brag 'oh yer mate im 30 wraps out'. Fish shorter accurately and bait it because when those mad winds on there alter that 30+ wraps can then be impossible to hit because your giving it the big time charlie cast ! I know as i've done it and then had egg on face

In reply to Post #5 the place is a joke, it needs half the swims taking out to give some space. they always say its quiet yet there parking in the lane, 3 toilets says everything

In reply to Post #4 It’s a crazy old place. Don’t no how people fish that place weekly. I like it once or twice a year for a big hit session

atleast they've upped the lead size to 3.5oz for the circus lake....

In reply to Post #1 I no the lake you mean and have fished it this year with great success.
16 fish hit in 12 hours.
I used fox Exocet tapered line to 35 wraps but to be honest hated using tapered line. Coils bad after a while and one crack off your done.
Recently gone onto 30lb avid camo braid straight through with a 2ft length of tubing. But haven’t tried it out yet to see if it will cope. Luckily there’s a max lead size so will never really push it to its limit.

In reply to Post #1 Some of the lads on the boating lake will use tapered longchuck.
Some of the cheap china braids in 30lb will cast a very long way but are very floaty.
What rods and reels are you using, and what line are you currently using.
It's good that the club have come up with a "standard" for their two high profile carp waters.

One of my club waters has just posted new rules...
LINE:
Minimum mainline line strength 15lb
Tapered main lines ok minimum 15lb
Braid line minimum strength 30lb ok with a minimum 18 inch length of rig tubing
No shock leaders on baited rods
Lead core/safe zone leaders Ok
Tapered leaders minimum 30lb-15lb shock leaders for Spodding (or 15lb minimum untapered line).Maximum 3.5 oz lead.
So guys I'm looking for advice on what line and setup is gonna be best for casting out as far as possible. Thanks in advance.
