I know some one who damaged a shrink-wrap handle ,so they found after removing the damaged area ,there was a lot of residue on the butt/blank ...so in the end the other two rods also had the shrink removed ,but they looked a bit grim

He ended up paracording the three butt's, it looked quite tidy and had great grip !

If the shrink wrap is just shrunk on it comes off very easily if you carefully cut down it with a stanley knife blade but some builders have been known to add some glue before shrinking the wrap down. which then makes it a bit more difficult to get them off and leave the blank not looking its best

You can whip up from the rod blank and about 1cm over the shrink, then epoxy to seal it.

Hi, every set of rods I’ve ever owned has had abbreviated handles, as is my preference. I’ve just ordered a cheap set of distance casting rods which are only available with full shrink wrap handles. What I want to know is if it is possible to just carefully cut around the shrink wrap with a Stanley knife blade and remove most of it, to essentially turn them into abbreviated, or will it knacker the wrap completely, if not immediately, then over time due to just having a bare exposed edge? Anyone tried this with any success? If it’s not doable, I’ll leave them alone and use as is.
Many thanks in advance for any replies 👍🏻
