Mine click perfectly but was hoping the custom reel king would be louder so I can hear it when beach fishing, having said that I've only used them once as I still much prefer using multipliers.

The clicker is a simple and cheap upgrade, custom reel king £4.99 per spool. Don't know about the xte but my xr14000 xtd's will be having the upgrade done .

Anyone know if the Shimano XTE 14000 has the same issues as the XTD and XTB with the clicker and line guard

You may want to have a look at the Penn's in the flesh before buying. I have the Penn Vantage XT7000 which is big enough and ideal for my fishing. However, if you want a true big pit reel the XT8000 is quite a bit bigger.

You are not lifting a fish straight up and hanging it on the end.

That’s like lifting a 10l pot of deluxe straight off the ground with the rod
Only rods anywhere near capable of doing that would be a 30 or 50lb boat rod lol

A carp rod couldn’t put that much pressure on the reel before the rod shattered.

Thanks. I think I will go for the Penns solid reviews. Ive seen some reviews that the Okumas drag is too fast with only a quarter turn to play with

I landed a 122lb catfish on my penns. They pull far harder than any carp. That is nothing to worry about. Plus to exert 12kg of force you'd need to be using them on scaffold poles, not Carp rods

what it means is if you lock the drag it can withstand 12kg of pressure or force in a direct pull before the drag would slip and release line, you would never be able to apply anywhere near that sort of pressure in a fishing situation with bent fishing rod.

It also means that in a straight pull ie rod pointed at say a snag and you walking backward you would have to apply more than 12kg or 26lb of force before it gave line most fishing lines would snap before it would give line.

In the above scenario if i was trying to pull for a break i wouldnt have the pressure direct through the reel bail arm and clutch anyway i would wrap the line around something else stick, bankstick etc before the reel

Your line will snap or hook would pull before you get near 12kg of force. You put a hook in you finger with a 12kg pull, it would tear your finger in half

Shimanos have 18kg. The only thing that puts me off the PENS is the lower rating of 12kg.

I picked up some second hand Daiwa Crosscasts and can’t fault them (later version with the black bail arm). Think I paid £120 for set of 3 - no brainer. I also have the new Crosscast Spod and it’s faultless. The clutch is very, very smooth. Worth a look.

I've got the latest ultegra xr 14000's and think they are superior to the ci4's I had previously but the spool clicker isn't great and will be upgraded soon, I've also had the penn 7000 and okuma Inception and think these ultegra's are superior but them they should be at the price point.
