I struggle thinking about naked set ups , do you think after a pick up the mainline settles straight back onto the deck if its aborted , especially a coot or tufty pick up.. Mate of mine uses tubing helicopters and he catches consistently.

The reason the helicopter, rotary. Whirling ted rig was developed was to stop tangles on the cast. The rig you describe should be no more prone to tangles than any other helicopter rig. Use with confidence.

I fish fluorocarbon mainline as I have seen fish spook off tight lines, so tend to fish slack to the lead... Generally I prefer a helicopter set up as it allows me to use a chord set up short to the deck, as a change up I then sometimes switch to a stiff boom iq2 bottom / snowman d rig with a kicker.. because I use a Flexi qwik change ring swivel i use a korda line saver bead as the bottom bead and a tungsten sinker and 5mm rubber bead at top. This allows me to use a chord set up, but quickly change to a naked helicopter.. does anyone think because it's naked it could be prone to tangles.. I have the stiff boom and kicker for resetting on aborted pickups. Plus I can slide the beads right down to my light lead and fish a bottom bait set up..opinions ?
