In reply to Post #1 I sometimes use a Titan Hide XL for the very occasional longer session, sounds like it would fit the bill for you if you can find a second hand one.

I had the xl titan and loved it - best bivvy I’ve ever owned, but got offered a ridgemonkey xf1 so parted with it.
I use the xf1 once a year for my holiday session. I love it’s height, ease to put up, rigidity and the shape of it.
It weighs a little bit more than a mini metro (even stripped down) - you need a hummer limo to transport it but once up I like.
Do I wish I had £200 back and my old titan, probably but if I ever get back to session fishing I think it’s great. Anyone using it for a night or two must be built like brick sht house and drive the company bus….

In reply to Post #1 I'm also in my mid 50's and have a Titan Hide XL
It does everything you ask for above and has the option of an overwrap.
I'm 6'2" and have no problems with the height of it either.

In reply to Post #5 You don't need to use all 4x storm sticks all the time (the 2x smaller side sticks are always required) - only if you want more tension (in windy conditions) or you are using the infill and want a taught set up around the doorway etc.
Again these are installed 'standing up' (rather than bending over) and the last thing you do when providing final 'tension' to the bivvy . . .they are also quick sticks so no fiddly screwing in etc

In reply to Post #6 Believe me the Avid ascent is a huge pain....Its relatively easy to put it together but try to get it apart. Its a 2-3 man business with lots of power and stress on the material involved. Total rubbish.

In reply to Post #5 I've never had a bivvy that's been hard to put up but any decent size quality kit will be relatively heavy. The aqua pioneer in my opinion is still one of the best ever made.

In reply to Post #2 Hello,
I would have to install 4 storm sticks with the Aqua 150 everytime I am using it if I am correct? Not a big deal as it seems the easiest and fastest to put up but just interested. BR

In reply to Post #1 Have a look at the quest defier mk3, fits all your needs and a fair price, I've just got 1 after having a hide xl for a couple of years but my back didn't like the low door on the hide.

In reply to Post #1 100% The Solar Quick up shelter. So easy to go up, tall in the middle, and big 1.5 man I love mine

In reply to Post #1 Not cheap and looong (in transit) but might fit your requirements - Aqua Pioneer 150
Easy to assemble (you can erect whilst standing up - no 'unravelling / putting joints together' etc) . . .comfy 1.5man for bed and chair - very good headroom with a massive doorway for decent visibility - super thick aquatexx (no daylight ingress) - permanent twin skin (you can leave skull cap on all the time) - very versatile with infill / insect panels etc
Lifetime investment if you look after it properly - these are quality bits of kit

I read all the threads reg. taller bivvies here and whats the best bivvy etc..
Yet I am not sure what would be the right one for me.
I have an Avid Ascent but that is so low and a huge pain to put together and take apart its basically killing my back everytime I use it.
I am in my mid 50ies already so looking for a bivvy that fulfils the following criteria:
- easy to put up AND down
- higher than 1.40m (if there is such a thing at all...)
- ideally a bigger 1 man or say 1.5 man for longer sessions (I only do overnighters but I need this size when I have the time once or twice a year to go longer). Would be ideal if a bedchair and a chair fit in.
- if possible somewhat lightweight. Willing to compromise here.
- good quality and of course stable
- as I only use it once or twice a year it shouldnt break the bank. Not a good criteria I know but it doesnt make sense to spend a 1000 quid for something I dont really use often.
- winter skin or similar not a must but would be a nice option.
Willing to buy secondhand too if I can find it here in Germany.
In the 90ies we had the Hutchinson igloo style tents. They were great. Not sure why they went out of fashion :-).
Thanks all for your advise and have a great season!
Marcus
