So my Daiwa's have had their cherry popped this morning with a nice 21.02 common. The clutch is crisp & responsive. I'm particularly partial to the sound of the clutch - if that's your thing. Obviously you don't have the QD so there's a small adjustment period if that's what you're used to. You can get QD kits for them if needed but I don't think I'll bother. They feel smooth & solid, balanced perfectly with my 10fts, I'm very happy with them so far.

I picked up some okuma in 6000 today after reading a lot between different reels for my 10ft setup.
After having them in my hand, they felt really good. I compared them in the shop with the shimano 5500 and tbh for less than half the price they where brilliant. Time will tell on longevity.

I had both as didn’t like the colours of the cast’izm and couldn’t tell any difference between performance. Just preferred the black and red colour.

Another vote for the Okuma 6000inc. I had a set of SS2600 with QD conversions etc, cost me £150 a reel. Took a while to admit to myself that the Okuma’s at £135 for 3 were simply better in virtually every respect, so I sold the SS2600 and now have 6 of the Okumas.. I use them a lot for Barbel fishing, casting 4-8oz leads every 30-60 minutes and cranking them in against the Trent current and so far (2 or 3 seasons, can’t remember exactly) they’ve all been faultless.

No worries, I'd pretty much decided that I was going to get them anyway.
They arrived yesterday afternoon so I haven't had a chance to use them yet. I'm planning on christening them tomorrow. I've spooled them up already & first impressions are very good. Perfect size & balance for me. They feel high quality & more importantly they look the dogs undercarriage paired with the cork handle on the dwarfs!
I'll let you know more when I do.

Thanks guys for all the advice, some of the reels look great but at the moment are out of my price range, I'll try and get to some shops to have a feel of the others, and keep an eye on the selling sites.

Sorry for late reply I didn't notice them, I haven't decided yet, popped into angling direct but they didn't have any on the shelf to look at. Ended up buying a new landing net instead as needed a compact one for the scope bag!!
How do they feel on the rods? And have you caught using them yet?

The okuma inc 6000s are definitely worth a look, I use them for pretty much all my carp/barbel and pike fishing for a few years now and albeit an issue with the anti reverse, they have been great reels. In summary they are nice and cheap and do a good job.
I also have the old castizms QDs and to be honest although the castizm is a nicer reel. For me, the difference isn’t worth the extra outlay or waiting on a decent set coming up second hand.

Comparing Ultegra CI4 with Whisker 25QD is not really a comparison though IMO; the spools sizes are completely different so a Daiwa Tourney S5000T is perhaps more appropriate?
I have SS2600s and 25QDs and the Whiskers are significantly better in almost every respect . . line lay is fine (I'm using 0.40) and spool capacity is fine for the majority of small to medium size UK lakes . . . .for me the weight and balance on 10' rods is perfect (better than Tourney sized or smaller SS2600 sized reels)
The last decent Shimano reel was the Tech 10K . . . .as for Gash reels no comment (  )

I've got 5500 XTC Ci4+'s on my 10' setup. The balance is perfect, they are great reels.

I had some Ci4 5500’s and didn’t like them. I prefer Okumas 6000 inc’s, as does my bank balance.
I also have a Daiwa 25qd which is a nice solid reel - limited capacity though, so I use it for heavy barbel fishing and close range carping. It’s a bit like a fancy version of the Okuma (but you do get a spare spool with the Daiwa).

Shimano Ultegra CI4+ 5500 XTC beat the Daiwas by quite a margin for me.
The Daiwa had an awful line lay compared to the Shimanos and I would have to put drag washers in to get a half decent line lay on the spool with regular 0.35-0.38mm line.
I am a rather old school type and I like the old school Daiwa Types SS 2600 etc. but technically they are just miles away from the new reels currently available.
So the Shimanos mentioned and the Nash GT 4000 and 6000 are the best reels I have ever owned.
I juse these on 10 and 11ft rods and for me at least they are absolutely perfect.
The Shimanos are also available in a slightly cheaper non CI4+ version that are plenty good enough.

I’ve had a set of Whisker 25QD for a couple of seasons now and love them, cracking little reels with the back bone for hit and hold and cranking fish from snags/weed. Had the 4000’s before them and whilst nice reels they just didn’t feel as good under pressure for big fish in tight situations.

My mate had a set of the whiskers and they looked great but they felt terrible compared to my castizms.

These are my go to on my 9 foots. Had Okuma inc 6000, but these are so much nicer however you can buy 3 okuma for 1 daiwa.
