Exactly Cam. I printed letters for my wife, son and daughter-in-law. I wanted as much presence at the Pool as possible. We were also feeding the fish as well, which the ducks seemed very grateful for.

Can't remember if I actually fished but I was a bailiff on a syndicate at the time and went to the lake every day.
I carried a letter from the lake owner stating why I was there if I needed it. same reasons as you Andy. no doubt.
I never needed it.

He could have pointed out that technically he was allowed to fish, as it was his job.
I called the local police and told them that I would be allowing two members to fish each night as a security measure after two other local lakes had problems. The police just said that they didn't blame me. I did however tell the members not to put any pictures of fish etc. on social media.

I never knew the guy was such a Fruit Loop until he put this on his FB page last night and then ridiculed me for my reply. Fair enough we all have a right to have our own views but in his post he is being completely derogatory to the majority of us that would loved to have gone fishing during Covid but chose to abide by the rules.
With someone that has their own subscription channel, maybe with young anglers viewing ,then surely he should be promoting best practice and not belittling people that abide by the law of the land while they think it's okay for them to break the law ??

'What, you did NIGHTS?!' I hear the covid police shout. Yes I bloody well did.
While the PC crowd were loudly obeying, virtue signalling and commanding everyone else to do the same, some of us dared to go out into the countryside. It was the one time that carp fishing became an extreme sport.
Thing is that we lost many fit young men to suicide - the figures rocketed to record levels. Young men who were no danger to anyone except themselves, suddenly locked indoors while many well-known anglers loudly condemned anyone for even thinking about going fishing.
With the passing of years we can see how mad it all was. Yet still no apology from anyone. No accountability from anyone.
Sincere apologies if anyone's nan has died while I wrote this post without a mask on.

“Co-morbidity” covers a huge percentage of the population. I'd guess a huge percentage of Forum users too.

For COVID being any age and fat, having high blood pressure, asthma, diabetes, anxiety, or depression all counted as co-morbidities.

A 30 year old marathon runner who needs an asthma inhaler occasionally was “co morbid” in spite of being fitter than most of the population.

Any man who is 5'10' and weighs 15 stone or over counted as co-morbid.

"was an ideal opportunity to cut through the current bs"
I couldn't agree more.

Still enough about bloody Covid & pandemics - lets get back to fishing!

I'll always be grateful to the Angling Trust for being so politically savvy as to get anglers back out. Made all the sweeter by the fact that my golf playing friends were still unable to play.

What was evident was the lack of cohesive global cooperation in terms of approach and resolution - it was an ideal opportunity to cut through the current bs between 'sovereign' states and come together to fight a common global enemy for once . . . as usual a selfish set of privileged individuals (particularly in our lovely government) used it as a platform to make money; whilst the rest of us sucked it up and now have a huge bill to cover. . . .

I agree that there was plenty wrong with the UK's response to the pandemic. The real reason for the lockdowns was to prevent the NHS from becoming overwhelmed.
Governments all over the western world saw what was happening in Italy in Feb 2020 - Drs making life or death decisions based on age, mortuaries overwhelmed and bodies stored on ice rinks, healthcare services on the brink of collapse.
In modern societies there is an expectation of availability of healthcare. With the last pandemic just after WW1 there was no expectation to call 999 and have medical care on tap.
Healthcare collapses = breakdown of society. Think what lengths you would go to if one of your loved ones needed healthcare and none was available.
Looking back through history most pandemic in the last 380yrs have taken between 5 - 14yrs to reach the much misunderstood ‘herd immunity', via of course lots of deaths in the interim.
There is zero doubt that vaccines bought the pandemic to a controllable level within 2yrs thus allowing us all to get back to normal faster and saving literally 10s of millions of lives worldwide.

My other half nearly died from Covid (much later on in the latter stages of the outbreak) so it was definitely 'real' . . . . however I still have my doubts as to its actual origin / the specifics of how our government (compared to some other more 'advanced' countries) dealt with it / and the reality of its net effect on our children's education / mental health, our economy and the overt legislation changes set up for any potential future occurrences. On this basis (and yes its based on gut rather than a set of perhaps blurred facts) I do believe a lot of the real truths will emerge in a couple of decades time . . . . . or maybe not!

I work for the NHS as well and I agree 100% - Covid did for plenty of otherwise healthy people.
During the Covid period I foolishly got drawn into a Twitter spat with Penning and one of his mates from Sticky. I think at the time he was likening those who were vaccinating to war criminals.
I invited Penning to come to the ICU at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford,(easy for him to get to), where we had several otherwise fit & healthy people who were fighting for their lives with Covid. None of them were vaccinated and all of them without fail asked to be jabbed whilst in Hospital. Obviously too late for that by then. Strangely Penning didn't take me up on the offer!
As I said to him at the time have the vaccine or not, it is entirely your choice, no one is forcing anyone, but please don't spread stupid misinformation. Only an idiot can believe they know better that 98.7%+ of the world's medical professionals. Or maybe they are a cabal of lizard people with a despotic plan to enslave humanity!!
I met Penning way back late 80's/early 90's at Nazeing and he seemed like a normal bloke then along with his mates - beer, birds & fishing...........
