I have the 7cv and it’s a great unit with good features. I use a separate garmin power unit with bag which is great bit of kit.

I’ve heard of issues sticking them near to a compass
Or having them too close to the electric motors but they do come with a mount t for the electric motor in the box

I bought a separate power lead for mine and added a fag lighter plug so I can use it with my power pack or fag lighter socket in the boat.

I have the 4.
Wish I had bought the 5 for the bigger screen
For the money it's brilliant.
I run it on the same battery as my bison 55lb thrust with no issues.
The transducer is mounted with the supplied mount directly onto the motor and it works great.
As with any echo sounder it's all about setting it up and understanding what your seeing.

Great unit.

Yep, definitely can be a problem and easily solved by rigging up the sounder to a separate bike battery rather than the motor battery. Had this problem with a couple of sounders over the years, one of which was a Garmin Striker but can't remember which model.

have heard of possible issues with engine interference when running an echo & a sounder off the same battery. can't say I have experienced it myself but it's worth remembering if you are having any trouble with it.

Thanks for the replies.

I’m happy to go ahead with this now . Will look at a transducer arm also

Has anyone used the contour mapping with any success ?

Cheers

I have the 4cv as a back up to my lowrance 9” unit and a separate power lead so I can use it in the dinghy
Good little units for the price.

I have the exact same as that.
It’s a v good unit, have been impressed.
No cons from me.
You do need a transducer arm, but just pick up a cheapest one that you can lower and raise the transducer.
You can use the same battery for it as the one to power your motor.
You won’t be disappointed with it
Ps - I have a v v nifty motor in classifieds if you are looking for one. The amount of difference the traxxis gives on battery life is amazing. ;0)

Hi ,

I’m looking at the Garmin STRIKER™ Vivid 5cv with GT20-TM Transducer.
It will be used on a club ticket with a few lakes on that provide the boats . I will be using it mainly for mapping the lake / baiting up and occasionally dropping rigs .

I’m not looking for something mega expensive to start just something to get me off the ground . Does anyone have any experience with this device that can off some pros and cons ?

I was planning on using the same leisure battery I use for the outboard to power this , I’m guessing this is feasible ?

Also with the fact I will be using different boats what is the best was to fix the transducer ?

Any help welcome
