Thank you, that does help. I've read a bit about the boats, but mainly about good and bad points, but little about how to use. I'm swaying toward the full package as feel that if I buy the basic there is a high chance I will want to upgrade and looking at the costings I will save money by getting it all built in upfront. I only want the sonar to really find depth changes as rhe one lake I will be using it the best fishing is off the far marginal shelf (it's how I caught last time by casting) and the GPS seems to make sense for the simple fishing in open water. I'm just mulling over all the options as I've never even considered a bait boat before (amd to be honest feel a little dirty thinking of it now, but for my French trips it seems to be a sensible option)

I got an Actor bait boat a couple of years ago for a couple of smaller public waters i fish that don't allow 'proper' boats. It has done the job admirably to be fair and caught me a few fish that I definitely wouldn't have caught without it. I had a Deeper already, got an extender for it, and it works perfectly. If not a bit of hassle making sure it's connected etc. Off the back of using my boat for a week, my mate bought the Actor with GPS and sounder built in. The sounder is basic but does what you need it to do. We couldn't get the GPS to work but we are both old, techno phobic and got bored quickly when it didn't seem to be working so didn't persist long enough to get our heads around it... If i was to buy another boat, it would definitely have to be bigger (so I can see it at range, I said I was old!) although the lights are useful at range and help with navigation on the way out and back. A GPS would definitely be an advantage if you can get it to work properly but there are ways around not having one e.g. clipping up to the spot & wrapping your rods etc.

All in all, if you are going to use it regularly then a boat with all the mod cons will help, no doubt about it and definitely worth spending more, for occasional use the Actor is great. My lad lives in France and has used the most basic version for a few years and it's still going although he has had to undertake some salvage missions every so often to retrieve it. Not sure this helps and I'm pretty sure I have posted similar elsewhere about this on the forum at times or maybe I'm experiencing de ja vu...

I am looking at getting a bait boat mainly for my French trips, been strongly advised to have one for Bounty due to the shallow water and my last trip a boat would have been an advantage. Now I've never used one, never really wanted to so I know nothing about them and also don't want to spend a fortune. Therefore have narrowed it down to the Lake Reaper or Actor, both seem to have good reports for a budget boat. Now my questions, how advantageous is having sonar and GPS? Both above models come with this and will be in (albeit stretching) budget. I can see benefits of both GPS and sonar and struggling to get my head around how you get to the same spot accurately without them, especially in the dark. I know a lot of you are bait boat users on here so keen get some advice and feedback on what features are needed, which are significantly beneficial and which are not needed
