Nutta was my all time favourite and gutted when they stopped it.
Never done very well on s7/slk but been using bug for a year or so and done well on that.
But they defo have a gap in thier range for a nut based bait.

Will do mate it’s a 14 mile stretch between locks haven’t had one out since 2019 none after Covid, all my fish since then gave been from lakes,I had 6 in 2019 lost about 4 as well from April to September 2019.
The fish I had from canal were
5lb
10lb
11lb
16lb x 2
32lb
This year more effort to be put in to prebait it and hopefully have one of the 3 30’s in there,I’ve got the bait to stop them in their tracks and keep them interested

Going Back to the dna smoke
Bought 2 bottles soon as they come out SLK & BUG,I then looked at how I will use it so last week I done a few days on a public lake I’ve had fish last year out to 27lb not an easy water very few swims and overgrown, very silty and can be really shallow in the summer times and the birds can be a nightmare along with the swans knecking for the loose offerings.
So…….
I went to poundstetcher and bought some bags of dried soldier fly and various insects including mealworms(the bags they use to feed the bird life on tables)£1 a bag thinking with spring here and insects about it may work.
Then I got my blender at home and blended a few packs and mixed it up with DNA insect meal to baulk it out ,I then added liquids bug & hemp oil to bind it and made 12 small(ish) balls of ground bait (after letting it soak all liquids up)using a Nash ball maker,I put a hole in each one and put them in a carrier bag and froze them, when I was ready to go I put them in my cool box so they slowly thawed and then put market float out and the holes in the balls of ground bait was then each filled with smoke, then they were fired out over my marker float and I put 2 pva bags of pellets over that spot along with 2 dark pop ups.
Ended up catching 2 a 15 & a smaller one in 24 hours ,I think it’s got a place in my fishing maybe not everyone’s,my next test for it will be on the canal where I’m starting to bait up from next week before I do 4 days on there after a nice big mirror(haven’t had one in 2 years been all commons)and hopefully another 30 from there.
Funnily enough going back to that lake I had the 2 fish exactly 24 hours apart one on Wednesday morning at 5:40 and the next morning at 5:40 again, they don’t usually follow that pattern but still happy to catch

Wierd isn't it, NuttaS never did it for me. When I came back to fishing I wanted a nut based boilie (dynamite had stopped Banana Nut Crunch) and a marine, I opted for S7 which had just been launched and NS. I ran them along side each other for a year and the NS was massively outfished everywhere I went and at all times of year by the S7, so I stopped using it.

I think DNA could do with a nut/milk/bird option, for the mo I'll be trying Handcraft Tricknut along side S7.

Ah, good stuff thought so
So, as I've never tried killing then eating other than the odd one on the bank, I'd imagine there's no need to purge if you remove the tract manually (like cleaning prawns) but can you rid the clay smell from dead ones by soaking in water at home...hmm can't see any reason why not, anyone tried it? I'd imagine that's what restaurants do or am I wrong? I know the chap who did it on my syndi didn't flush with fresh water, just held in a tank at the water/in the water for a few days.

The Yanks thought the passenger pigeon was an inexhaustible source of food. It's now extinct.

No you’re right. I’m saying you can trap and kill them on the bank without issue. So they don’t have any protections.

Think we are talking at it from the different angles. Keeping them is under license so those that do it are commercial and regulated to stop the spread of them. In an ideal world that makes sense.
Taking them away dead I guess you can make crayfish meal, etc. although not sure if they’d need purging for that or not to be useful.

Any Joe bloggs can trap and kill for the purpose of just getting rid of them. I can imagine loads goes on unlicensed in terms of selling them.

I think we're talking at cross purposes. Crays taste like crap unless they are purged (so they pass any food in their intestinal tract) and cleaned with fresh running water for several hours to rid the clay/soil taste from their flesh.

I read that as Joe Blogs can't take live RS from the source (ie the river) to his home to do that, (unless its a commercial business).

Why would you want to take dead RS home if they taste crap, what am I missing? Is there a different meaning to purge, US V UK?

Key words in there is live. It says you can’t KEEP LIVE crayfish without a proper license. So taking away to purge. Apparently you only need written consent from the EA (no explanation on how to get it) to trap and remove which means trap and kill non native crays.

The reason for their spread was commercial businesses populating lakes and ponds to sustain their business, at the time all unlicensed. Now they want to keep tabs.

yes they have made it easier to get a license due to the issues they are causing.

Not for the individual they haven't by the looks of it, did you mean business? I can't see why average Joe Bloggs with half a ounce of intelligence can't trap now, just silly :-(

As I said before, protecting the red with the excuse of the white.

You must not transport or take live crayfish away from the location you caught them. There are 2 exceptions to this:

1. If you have a licence, for example, to keep live crayfish for commercial processing on your premises in England
2. If you have a permit to keep live specimens for research or conservation in England and Wales

And on the traps
have an entrance no more than 95mm wide (unless fitted with an otter guard)

Imagine bringing your trap up with a Otter

@Greekskii, there's a good little business there, not much outlay really, could be doing the water owners and the waterways a great service

I used to know a guy that did the same, got £12/kg in the local restaurants! A lot of effort goes with it but well worth doing for a few quid. Even with this though, you handpick the bigger ones and the smaller ones go back to grow, which isnt eradicating them.

Unless you drain a lake and find every last one you have no chance of ridding the lake of them.
