Couldn't agree more, i use the ci4 5500 med baitrunners, and unless you need to use heavier line than 15lb or fluorocarbon, or need to cast to the maximum of your capability, they are great reels. I use the large ones for fluorocarbon and heavier tc rods.

Ci4 medium baitrunner is light and can cast 15lb line the distance you want to fish. Only reason to go bigger is for .40 lines or maximum distance. On saying that. Ci4 1400 size reels are as light as most 8000 size baitrunners. And in my opinion help line management. Not so many coils.

We used to fish at 100yds with 6010 Baitrunners, so size is fairly irrelevant on that front.
Line management I'd guess would be way more important and .35 mono with behave itself perfectly on the 5500 size Shimano's. My Ci4 XTB Ultegras are lovely and light.

Maybe look shimano ultegra 5500 xtd or the medium longcast bait runner both smaller reels and lighter and will still cast 100 yards no problem

The same reel with no baitrunner was the earlier shimano ultegra XT.
They are great reels, I have them on my heavy rods, but they weight the same as the old long casts.
There are newer versions of the big baitrunner that are a bit lighter, and quite a few alternatives without the baitrunner.
If your casting no more than 100 yards then you might be OK with the smaller 5500 sized shimano reels.

Are they the old ones, they are heavy?

Loads of options out now, depends how much you want to spend really, magnesium body's etc

How far are you usually casting, what rods do you use and what line strength and diameter are you using.

I’ve used big pit bait runners for years but since having an op on my shoulder I find them heavy for casting.
Can anyone suggest an alternative.
Thanks
