Nice one mate, interesting that

I have taken frozen homemade stuff for a long time, defrost as required. If I have rice dishes I like a ring of rice around my plate lol and usually cook it separate, will just try it with less water

Yes you don't have to boil microwave rice a second time.

Ive worked in the food and drink industry for over 20 years.. making ready meals and micro wave amongst a host of other things.

The analogies about microwave to re-heat and oven cook to cook are in a collective way correct to a extent... however both of them are there to take the food to a certain temperature point (generally >72oC for 2 mins) as long as you hit this you will generally be fine.

Any food that is retorted (cooked inside a sealed vessel) is generally fine to eat straight from the can... this is generally canned food and things like microwave rice and grains etc. In essence they are raw ingredients sealed into a vessel (tin cans) with a liquid medium added to help with heat distribution during cooking, they are then cooked under pressure and continually rotated till they hit a set core temperature and then cooled quickly in a controlled manner. After that process they are what is known as commercially sterile and hence will never go out if date as such - however over time high fat products can acidify to the point of being dangerous. And if you got this far you will now be able to understand why canned corn is better then frozen sweetcorn

In the supermarket, any ready meal recommended on the box to be prepared (reheated) in the microwave, is already cooked. All of them. If it says oven cook, it's no good for this below. The meat is raw and needs cooking properly. But most ready meals are for the microwave and already cooked.

Non stick frying pan with a glass lid is best, but a non stick pan with a ceramic plate on top will do the exact same thing. Take your Taste the difference or Finest ready meal and chuck it into your warmed pan. No need for oil or anything else except two or three tea spoons of water to stop it from drying out, and to help warm it up in the steam. On the gas stove, on the lowest flame you can go. Lid on at all times except to stir. Every five minutes remember to give it a stir. That's it. Anything with large chunks of chicken or beef will take at least twenty minutes to warm through to the centre of the meat. Anything like pasta bake type things containing mince or shredded meats are ready in ten to fifteen minutes.

Slow cooked pork or slow cooked beef hash ready meals from M&S used to be winners for me. Sainsburys taste the Difference Beef Stroganoff or Chicken Kiev bake.

You don't even need a cool bag/box this time of year. Touch.

So you are taking the rice out of the bag and putting it in the pan, what I do but much less water?

The pouches of microwave rice that take 2 minutes mate - as said they are technically already cooked just need to reheat - adding water will steam it and make it more fluffy.

Not boil in the bag - which is raw rice in a mesh bag.

Also as said you can just add to what every your cooking if it has a sauce.

It's already cooked in the bag, you're just reheating it basically.

Yes that's the way I do them. I also use a cobb frying dish (any saucepan would do though) I put 2 to 3 inches of water in it with 4 stones. Place micro meal on the stones still in its container. Piearce film lid as asked to as if microwaving. Once the meals slightly bubbling I peel.film lid back and give both meat side and rice a stir . Carry on boiling till piping hot.

Easier to just chuck the rice in with whatever you're cooking for the last few minutes, add a couple of teaspoons of water and it comes up a treat.

Also fine with the microwave rice pouches - just add about 10ml of water and re-heat in a pan. Dont open it until you are about to re-heat it, and also consume it all or bin it once you have cooked it.

Interesting, when I use the rice pouches, I just put the rice into a pan and boil for a few minutes then drain. Are you saying that you boil in the bag?

Or even better make your own food at home and reheat in your pan, much nicer / healthier and cheaper in the long run 👍🏼

As wayne has said most of the time you would be ok, as most of the currys you see will use pre cooked chicken added to a sauce in the ready meal packs.

Not sure if still available but you used to get some really nice currys in pouches & cans from the main supermarkets.
