Sorry mate, just catching up on my moderating duties, Afterall, i've got nothing else to do, but run two very successful businesses, family and life

You're right, as much as ive loved angling all my life since the age of 9 yrs old and yes, ive fished a fair bit over my time, BUT...fishing was and is, and always will be nothing but a pass time.

Some however will have more "hoodies" and "beanies" in their possession than most have pairs of socks.

Shelley, as much as he bores fish out of lakes (fair play, if family or life comes second), it's his conduct that is in question...

Absolutely NOTHING to do with the amount of time one fishes. It's everything to do with how one conducts themselves whilst doing so.

I've fished by him on Waveney. He was fairly obnoxious, particularly as he could see I was with my wife at the time.

I've also watched him on Cypography where under Elliot's guidance he appears to have grown up a little and understand the merits of a better public image.

Oh, and I think the twig is a heap of ****/horror show for nods

You also get the usual F***wits slating him who have never met him but just want to join in with whatever is the flavour of the month.

Just like the twig rig/rehooking fish etc.

Never met him so can't comment what his like but has caught a lot of carp.

Totally unnecessary to slag people for going fishing more than they do. Or to suggest mental reasons for doing it. Pathetic really.

Tried it on the CP, drinking and thinking he was some sort of hard man trying to intimidate others - I think it was Paggy that got him in a throat grip in the Car Park and dragged him around for 20 mins, he scuttled away in his van never to be seen again.

He was lucky he never got a proper good hiding.

Threads like this always make me smile. You get people influenced by social media, defending someone they only know through videos, articles, or photographs.

Clearly none of you have ever fished a lake with squeaky. Or witnessed him first hand trying his hardest to intimidate the smallest/quietest lads on the lake. Fella is a backward idiot from hillbilliesville, who when it’s actually put on him, melts like a candle. He’s had it put on him numerous times for his behaviour. RM knocked him spark out when he started, and then he was straight on the phone to plod.

The fella is essentially just a horrible person, a bully. Especially during his White Lightning years. When it actually comes down to it though, he is actually about as tough as his squeaky voice. If it was not for carp fishing, the bloke would have been on Jeremy Kyle every single week.

There’s a reason he has always been the most hated bloke in carp fishing. He earned it.

You literally engaged in an argument/discussion (whatever you want to call it) by replying to me. Then have came back with a typical divvy response.

The let’s slag off Jim Shelley saga so it makes me come across as a guy with high fishing morals is a bit long in the tooth. Drop me out.

I’d bet my life 99% of the people that have commented don’t have ANY first hand experience of the man.

I’m just saying, put your effort into positivity over negativity………Be nice. Stay humble.

Lol people out here like Jim Shelley’s some Bond villain.I think he gets more stick than he deserves. A lot of people jump on the bandwagon but I bet would jump at the chance of fishing under his wing. How many other top anglers have pulled the same strokes he has……a surprising majority of them I would say.

There’s a lot worse out there than Jim bloody Shelley.

There's a new YouTube video of him being interviewed on cyprography, I think it's called that anyway where he openly talks about guesting/poaching and not showing him in a good light whilst laughing about it, laughing at the locals when his bait was delivered on a pallet at his swim....*****

Please get your facts right-

1. Nobodies name is mentioned in my post, as I was asking in general.
2. I actually asked the question - does someone has to be mentally challenged in some way to have a capable of living on the bank for weeks months at a time, putting heath, family life etc - in fact turning ones back on all the things associated with a “Normal Life”

If anyone wants to do such things, rock on it’ your prerogative!

Its funny how guys who spend their time working a boring job 5 days a week, can claim someone is mentally retarded or there's something wrong with him as he chooses to spend his time fishing?!

I'm guessing you guys that slate him below, fish? and if so please let me know what the optimum time per week is to spend at a lake, before its considered retarded?

Jim turned up at a lake i was fishing couple of years ago, only did a few nights and never saw him again but there wasn't anything perculier about his style of fishing from what i saw.

The only thing that annoyed me about Jim was that the 'client' fish actually came from a different water than what he stated in his book which was a bit annoying and haven't really followed his stuff since then.

Too true Joss, there’s much more to life than camping out in all weathers waiting for a fish to inevitably pick up a hook bait.

I honestly don’t know how anyone can do it without going mad, or do you have to be mentally challenged to actually go and do it?

Someone once pointed out:

People fishing for fish that are showing near him = sheep
Him fishing next to people that have fish showing over them = amazing location skills.

I know he had a payout years ago, but when fishing is your livelihood you have to big yourself up to keep the money coming in 🤷🏻‍♀️

I posted something in a thread he was on on here once (nothing abusive), and he messaged me asking if I had a problem with him.

Only ever listened to about 5 minutes of a podcast with him on. Does he still do that ‘sigh’ when explaining something, like his carp fishing intellect is just too much for mere plebs?

No doubting he can catch carp, but he’ll do anything to achieve it, far beyond a bit of stroke pulling.

The sheep thing is more about people who used to follow him around and jump in on the hard work he had done to reap the benefits without putting in the work. One of the reasons he stopped fishing in the UK and concentrates on more wild unknown fishing.

I can't personally attest to how true all of those things are, I do know that many green eyed monsters have come out with a lot of things that aren't true to make him look bad because they haven't been doing as well as him and they want to justify why. Anyway either way he seems to be a lot less of an issue to people these days.

Not sure about that personally. Being refused tickets for places so just cutting down fences and fishing them anyway, poaching fish from no fishing waters and moving them into places he can fish so he can publicise them, rocking up, casting straight across other anglers swims to get to "his" spots and then threatening physical violence when challenged seem quite a bit further than most would go to me.

Though to be fair pretty much all of the top anglers from (what I consider to be) the golden era were all pulling strokes and if you weren't you were at a big disadvantage. You only have to read some of the books to know that. I think because he has always be a no BS out spoken guy it seems like he's worse than the others lol.

I think he has calmed down a bit as he has got older. He’s a deadly combination of masses of time and a ruthless streak. Not many have got one of those attributes, let alone both. He has caught them all….not made so many friends along the way but he’s right at the top.

Time is a carpers friend. Most will catch fishing 5 days a week. He was talking of sessions of 60 day's plus. Not someone I'd want to be fishing against. Not just because he's a time bandit, but the strokes he pulls like soaping swims, filling in multiple areas with his free bait etc. Surprised he's not had a bit of a talking to to be fair.

Agree

Time is by far the biggest advantage to any angler because you can’t catch them when you are at work, home or doing family things

He will have sacrificed a lot of the above to be there but he is also an exceptional angler and that is the real difference between him and a camper, just scrapping a few

Oh believe me I wish I had a lot more time, here in Toronto we get just 5 months of fishing weather and I only managed 5 days of fishing this year because of various family commitments so I get the green eyed monster in the winter for all of you guys over there being able to fish year round.
I used to fish every Friday lunchtime to Saturday night every week no matter what when I lived over there. and always had a week of vacation on the bank.

You could say that about all the professional anglers but they wouldn't be professional anglers in the first place if they didn't catch a lot of fish and stand out from the rest of the crowd. And if he wasn't exceptional at what he does he wouldn't have caught pretty much all of the top known fish that are around. Many people fish for years to catch just one fish whereas he has proven himself to have caught a lot of fish from those waters over the same period of time.

Some years ago now Andy, he upset a few when he had a pallet of boilies delivered direct to Linch Hill and proceeded to lump it in which must be 20 or more years ago now this was just after I dropped the ticket having done a couple of seasons on Stoneacre, my memories for dates is getting worse but was early 00's

I have seen a lot of his pictures elsewhere, the man has captured some of the finest carp in the country, target fish, after target fish, after target fish and that’s the difference, up there with the modern greats for me. One of the most successful carp anglers over the last 3 or 4 decades in this country. Say what you like, carp catcher!!!

At the minute. He certainly went off the rails a few years back, which I think he has openly admited. He had a new sponsor every week, untill it was only the literal garbage brands left.

I dint blame him for not wanting to use nash baits though, they certainly aren't what they used to be.

To be fair, he's still with many of them, I think he likes certain items from certain manufacturers and wants to use those items so they sponsor him, such as leads, tackle, bait etc. I mean wouldn't you if you could? lol

I have a similar view of him, don't agree with all his views but definitely respect how he's honest about who he is and despite being sponsored doesn't try to pitch everything as the greatest. Also quite enjoy how he gives Elliot grief on Cypography.

That's what confused me, he does use the Nash prepared particles and a lot of the tackle just not the boilies which I always found strange.

I thought he was sponsored by Nash for tackle , perhaps he will go with them for bait also.

Cant say I know him or have fished with him but I follow him on Instagram and have messaged back and forth with him a few times and he is always such a genuine guy and is always happy to help, seems very much one of those salt of the earth, this is who I am and I don't put on a front for anyone, sort of a guy. I wish there were a lot more people in this world like that as you always know where you are with this sort of person.
I agree the podcast is great, I like his no BS approach and says it how it is. I was always surprised that he wasn't on Nash Baits boilies but chose to use ACP baits as his sponsor instead. I see that last week he announced that he's stopped with ACP and is looking for a new bait sponsor. Will be interesting to see who he ends up being sponsored by.

Love him or hate him he has certainly reached the pinnacle of carp angling. I actually thought the podcast was very good. Does anyone on here know him or have fished with him.?
