I think there is enough movement without, and the added hinge of the esp ronnie thing just makes it easier for the hook to fold over and be blown out.
The German rig works by restricting the chances of the hook folding over, so maybe reducing the extra unneeded flexibility might help.

Personally, i leave it on, but cant see why you cant use it without the ring. May not give it as much movement, but as long as it can sit right, why not

Do you take the ring off the qc swivel when using the esp ronnie clip thingy.
I think it looks better. Tied with 30lb amnesia boom.

The two most important parts for me:

Conti Muggas Size 4
ESP Quick Change Ronnie Clips & Tungsten Sleeve

As for the rest of the bits that make up the rig I'm not too fussy about, but currently use Ridgemonkey Shrink Tube, Gardner Bait Screws, Korda Hook Beads (large for the conti hooks) and Ronnie Swivels.

I use a size 4 curved hook, spinner swivel with ring from Bank Tackle and size 20 swivel from Bank Tackle to attach the bait. Don't use a kicker, just put some heat shrink over the spinner swivel and mould putty around it.
