I picked up some of the re released Greys Xflites and have been using them for a couple of months, pretty well built 50mm eyes, thin/light blanks.
They throw a 2.5 Oz lead about 70 yards (I'm a hopeless caster) and are quite pleasant with a fish on, arcs past the joint and handle lunges nicely.
Best part I got 3 new for £240 off tft so maybe worth considering if it doesn't have to be Shimano.

In reply to Post #9 re**I own a TX2 3lb TC and it is a through and through casting Rod.
That means FAST TAPER, and that means you won't feel those lunges a fish makes as much as a more progressive (closer to through action) Blank. (which I own and have owned many of)
You CAN'T have a Rod that does both. **
excellent post, i too have been looking to buy tx2's as heard the rod is a "through action carp rod" for a LONG RANGE rod.....absoult bollox!
Most of these dudes that spout this nonsense bollox ain't been carping 30+ years, cos back then most rods were through action/compond taper, back then LONG RANGE rods always stated FAST TAPER!
RANT OVER lol!

In reply to Post #1 I have a set of TX5's in 3 1/4 and they are awesome, great for long distance work but still a nice playing rod under the tip. I used to have a set of custom Harrison Torrix in 3 1/4 many years ago before moving to Canada (when I sold most of my gear) and these rods play very similar to them.

As above...
You done the right thing.
I love my TX2's for casting at range - I'm a crap caster, but I can get a 3 ounce lead at 110 yards .35-.37, straight through with them.
Needs must...
But they are typical modern fast taper - Broom stick butt section \ match rod tip section.
And that is the denominator for a good casting rod!
In comparison my Free Spirit ES 2.75lb (which are underated TC), even my CTX 3.25lb, actually bend a little towards the butt section, put less emphasis\reliance on a sh*t clutch (which most reels are now) , and you can actually feel the fish.
The Free Spirits are lighter, also.
BTW, you woudn't go far wrong with the TackleBox CFX 2.75.
Had a waggle....
They are not through action(obviously,no carp rod out there is) but progressive and nice and light, good finish.

Forget Shimano rods above 3lb if you want to play fish (especially with smaller one). For medium distance casting and playing fish feeling, choose blank with parabolic action like Century FBS, Harrison Ballista,...they are not cheap but for long term use they are lifetime rods.
My friend have tx7 intensity-that rod is a casting tool, more weapon in hands than playing rod but for some anglers they are perfect for their needs (casting is on the first place).
I had tx5 intensity in my hands and for fish above 25 pound they are quite good, affordable and it is possible to hit some serious distances with them.

In reply to Post #9 Thanks Danny for the price I thought sod it I will chance it and just get some but won't bother now will look at something else .Had loads of people give wrong advice about rods online worst has to be all the people claiming infinities and te,s etc are superb under the tip to my detriment buying 3 custom te,s which were sold after first use .Horrible carp rod more suited to estuary fishing but the sheep and tackletarts seem to love them .you see loads of people fishing puddles with them .Think I may wait and see if some original ng,s pop up in decent nick .So glad I didn't order some tx2s today

As per below the tx5 or Ultras, have a search for the Shimano catalogue.. they rate all rods out of 5 for fish playing and casting and it's pretty much spot on (I have tx2 and tx9-A's and had a set of tx7s for a few days)

I have a set of 12ft 4 piece tx compacts 2.75 tc
Bit heavy in the butt section
But quite nice

In reply to Post #4 What test are your tx4s are they pokerish with fish ?ideally would love a rod with similar action to the ng,s .They seem ridiculously low priced for how much people seem to rate them

TX7 the stiffest
TX5 and TX ultra more pleasant for playing fish
I'm saying this for first series (not A series)

In reply to Post #2 Wish we had a tackle shop where you can have a good look at them as we are buying blind online .Seen one post saying the tx4 31/4 is a stiff casting rod and then another saying it's better under the tip than the tx2 always someone talking rubbish when it come to rod.s My favourite rod was the century ng 3.5 brilliant under the tip and you could cast big bags with it I even used mine for walloping big deadbaits out piking. Woulld by another set second hand if I could find some without the milky white varnish problem .

In reply to Post #1 i had tx2 in 3lb - nice rods. However I wanted something for small water fishing with a nice playing action, i've got tx4's in 2.75 tc and I have to say they're the best rods i've owned for a very long time. Can't fault them.
