I'd have to say ccmoore Pacific tuna. I had such high hopes for this bait when it was released but had to stop using it because of the relentless tench action. Winding in half way through an overnight session was the breaking point for me!

When I was a kid I always, always used to catch them on either Richworth Esterberry or Tutti Frutti. For whatever reason, the lake I used to fish I never managed to catch them on any other boilie (I used all sorts as a kid, Trigga, Nash Whisky, Scopex.
That said, my most recent Tench (still a few years back now), and a fair one it was, came on Baitworks Atlantic Heat, however, this and Royal Marine is what I solely use nowadays so it's hardly surprising that at some point if I was going to catch one that it would have been on one of these baits.
From memory I've never had a tench on a pop up though.

In reply to Post #1 crafty catcher peanut pro, back in the day was an absolute killer tinca bait. Caught shed loads of em, intentionally on those.
Maple pea, again, outstanding and anything with blood really worked.

In reply to Post #13 I would agree with the red malarkey from what I've seen. Which is interesting because given that they MUST have night vision, it's questionable as to whether they can actually see in colour at all. However I'm getting quite a few tench in a predominantly carp venue on DT Green Beast. Epic bait all around it is

In reply to Post #1 From my 35 years of carp and accidental tench fishing, I would say they seem to like red or pink hook baits between 10mm and 14mm, and creamy flavours. I roll my own bait, but I'm sure you can find something in a packet or pot that fits the bill. I actually avoid using hook baits in red or pink on waters where there a lot of smaller tench. If you're targeting tench, I wouldn't use boilies. Sweetcorn or luncheon meat is what I've used with a lot of success.

In reply to Post #1 My best tench have all come on good old fashioned sweetcorn so boilie wise I guess something that has similar qualities like some of the recommendations here. Bright and sweet and not too big.

I had my biggest tench at over 12lb on a Solar Seafood Takeaway boilie, but in terms of numbers, Sweet Birdfood based boilies caught me loads up to 9lb.

In reply to Post #1 I'm afraid to say that the bait has long since been discontinued but the old tench really lived Mainlines Grange CSL back in the day. Might be worth considering CSL in one form or another.
