That's a man searching for form and trying to force it.

Talking of coaching who is coaching Pope he was playing at balls that would'nt hit a 6th stump.
Does no one take a leg stump guard these days no wonder they don't know when to leave.

We'll soon find out, if they rock up in the WI with root as skipper and go straight into the 1st test without any meaningful warm up games it's business as usual.

I do wonder how much coaching root has as captain, he just keeps making the same mistakes managing bowlers, releasing pressure when we're on top etc

He's talking like he wants to continue, i hope he doesn't. Root isnt a good captain, he needs to concentrate on batting and help teach the new players.

52 days until the West Indies test, I hope lessons are learned, players and coaches sacked. Somehow i have a horrible feeling nothing will change and only abject humiliation in the West Indies will force a change.

hope im wrong.

I can only hope they learn some lessons from this tour.

I've thought for a long time this would be roots last series as captain but I'm not so sure now.

Another false dawn. 68-0 to 124 all out in 23 overs...I should know better by now.

7 Wickets for 39 runs

I cant even get angry or laugh anymore, I just expect it. Red ball cricket is dead in England unless this results in a MASSIVE shakeup at the ECB. It not about who will or wont get sacked anymore, its about the fundamental core of cricket and where it is going in England. I've never seen this level of cricket before from England.

Least its over now, least the humiliation has come to an end.

I'm going to predict that we'll win both series by one clear Test match. (God loves an optimist!)

I was joking at the time, but it has turned out to be a sour joke.

There's got to be a rethink on what it is we want from our elite (test) players. Offer them the sort of money that can get in India would be a start, but that's never going to happen. We thought Kerry Packer was bad, but the IPL is a hundred time more damaging.

Kevin Pietersen's plan makes a kind of sense.

Might have shot himself in the foot with his recent comments but I agree, not sure the ecb will want to risk harming the cash cow short format tournaments to improve the 1st class game tho, and he'll probably insist on some changes

I still like kps 1st class franchise idea even though it won't happen

I see farbrace is in the frame for the aussie job
