In reply to Post #7 There's various "carrot" type knots that'll do a good job when the leader knot is on the reel. It's more about knot size , shape and tag end position. There's very little stress on this type of leader knot set up so carrot knot's are ideal, superb strength and fly through the guides.
Leader/ hooklink knot's that don't go through the guides are also many but always try to work the knot with the thinnest material. Back to back uni, Albright, Yucatan FG etc

In reply to Post #8 FG knot all the way, I use these lure fishing casting and retrieving heavy lures and they will never let you down.

In reply to Post #7 my experience is the mahin knot is good for nylon to nylon or braid to braid but on nylon to braid it can slip

Hi, ive googled the mahin knot and there seems to be numerous ways of tying it, is there a definitive way of tying it ?

In reply to Post #5 That’s true. But I’m not sure how much it likes repeatedly going through guides under load

Look up the FG knot . Done well it can’t be beaten for braid to nylon/fluoro.

In reply to Post #3 I won't say that the Albright is a bad knot, in fact I love it for rigs, leader knots, not so much. I do think that the Mahin is the best knot for leaders due to the front leading taper. Cut my crack offs - was using the double uni - to zero with the Mahin.
When really hitting the rod as hard as you can, I need a knot that isn't going to rip off an eye or blow up a rod.

In reply to Post #2 I favour the Albright . Never tried this not though have no troubles with the knot being small and neat

Anyone use the Mahin to tie braided leaders to nylon? Is it doable?
Have become a fan of the knot due to it being nice and small 😁
