In reply to Post #24 When I was keen I found great results using the method feeder when using a good percentage of ground Bombay mix, may not be suitable to put in a base mix but food for thought.

In reply to Post #21 redmoor.net is cheaper and free delivery when you spend over £30 so I tend to stock up on dried fruit and nuts in the kitchen at the same time

In reply to Post #17 Check out Rob Maylin's early books, he used spices in his mixes years ago.

In reply to Post #11 i added the spices last night with the hydro, what a difference its made to the smell of the bait.
going to try different levels of inclusion over the next few weeks, i need to find some fenugreek as the lady in my local Asian supermarket told me there is a local shortage

In reply to Post #14 A theory of less is more is a good base for most things. Trial and error and a clear lake to watch the carp is what we need! Never be afraid to experiment!! I have made many many cock ups but also found a few things I wouldn't make a bait without! And good luck with it all

In reply to Post #13 I think its because I'm newly into making my own bait that it's really hard not to go mad and add everything and stupid levels! Perhaps I just need to get it out of my system...

In reply to Post #12 Just remember some spices are not very soluble, another good reason to lower the quantities. Fenugreek.....lovely stuff, paprika is good too 😉

In reply to Post #11 Have you used the BAF spice mix? That smells REALLY nice. Not sure what all the 7 spices are but paprika and chilli powder are definitely two of them...

In reply to Post #8 Thinking about it I used to use it in a mix 10-15 years ago and that was a basic mix. When I took it out testers seemed to complain with a drop in catch results. However with my more recent mixes (younger than 10 years old) I never noticed a difference so took it out but then these mixes have kelp in which I believe is high in glutamate naturally.
I have recently added it to a bait glug, when I put this glug mixture neat in my pond (only a few ml mixed with a little water) the carp grub around for longer if its got MSG (and Tuna Hydro powder) in it. No idea if the fish in the lake respond the same as I haven't fished with it yet!
