Had an explorer i used for 4 seasons, great barrow i liked it a lot... main issue is
1 tyres are very thin and cheap rubber and explode frequently.

2. The thumb screws that hold in the handles and wheel are very poor. They are just too loose and eventually the thread will go as they did on both my handles and one side of the wheel struts..

3. Fox after sale service is poor (as i found out)

But they are still a great barrow. I bought the deluxe version and it had the same issues, thumb screws on the handle just wouldnt tighten and stay tight, such a shame for a great barrow, irritated me.

I sold it after 2 months as i bought a mk8 power barrow.

I have the non deluxe Fox also, only issue I had was the thumbscrews on the handles didnt seem to tighten properly, I drilled them and put a bolt through problem solved. Means the arms are permanently attatched now but I have a Mondeo estate so no worries. Underbarrow bag is fantastic, enables fishing from the barrow easy, althouh I only used the mesh storage pockets once (that fit either side of the wheel) as they got blathered in mud and I can get away without using them. Also my last Fox barrow the bag rubbed against the wheel, no issues with the explorer. Lastly the camolite bags are great, I have several items of the range and cant fault them. Just dont expect to get a ton of gear on it, I have to do a couple of trips on longer sessions, keeps me fit.

You will get a lot of different answers to the build quality of the fox product, Ive used mine weekly (ish) for over 2 years, and its been fine , the tyre burst after i inflated it about 12 months in but thats been the only repair required, others have had faulty thumbscrews loose arms etc... I like the design very much and it makes the load so easy to push if you load it up properly. All the luggage is still functioning as it was when i bought it. for the price bracket id say its pretty good gear. Not seen the avid

Dont worry about build quality. The haters will have bought one thing that didnt work or broke, and now hate particular brands. Take the poor build quality comments about stuff with a pinch of salt. Its all made in china, in bulk, some bits come through with issues, its the way of the world now, just have to be unlucky to end up with the bad bits.

I have the explorer barrow (non deluxe) and its fine, solid. Find the under barrow access a bit hit and miss. Being able to get in relies on you leaving the zips in the right place. Plus its quite low so getting it means getting on your knees, not always ideal if its muddy. Having a bed on the barrow makes it harder again dur to the width it adds. Its easier to fish from a bag on top. I also feel it could do with longer handles as if you hook a bucket over the handles, it can hit your knees, meaning i arch my bavk a little without thinking about it which can be a pain after a while. If the handles are sorted, i might try and get the deluxe ones of they fit. Over all its a decent barrow and folds up fairly small aswell

Been wanting a new barrow for a while now and both of thses are available from my usual stockist in the U.S
Close price wise, about $15 more for the Avid.
So, pros and cons ?
The features look pretty similar, although I do like that you can access the Fox underbarrow bag from side zips, while on the Avid the whole bag slides out on runners.
I like the idea of fishing off the bartow, as most of my sessions are short and it seems the Fox might be best in this case.
.I guess the crunch is build quality, something which I am concerened about with Fox products and don't know much about Avid's rep.
I must add that I do like the look of the adjustable handles on the Avid, which could swing it for me.
