The best single hookbait I ever used, was actually in the 90s when I was a kid and didn't have the money to be smashing 5kg of bait into everywhere I went,

It was the original Mistral Rosehip Isotonic, they caught me so many fish.

Another for the original BFM with Cranberry, Nutramino and Salmon oil. (Julian Cundiff recipe)?
Loved the Enervite Gold with the the old Nash Chocolate and Minamino when the temps dropped.
Singles would have to be a yellow NS1.

Cyprobaits was owned run by Gary Thomas ,based in Cornwall,lanner....

Well known for his College lake exploits and his wife Alisons pic on the front cover of Carpworld .

He is or was a commercial sea Fisherthem...lol...tied up or was with Mainline baits,...helped me out loads when we did a sponsored fish on another local ressi ,for Children's hospice Southwest ..in the early 90s

Not to be confused with Cypri baits or similar a Dutch flavour house..

I've had 3 baits over the years that for me have been outstanding. First was the original Nash Sting, I was gutted when that changed and IMO was never anywhere near as effective. Second was a bait calked Spicy Sausage & Raw Liver from a small company in Devon called Cyprobaits. I was lucky enough to meet them while on holiday down there many years ago. That was seriously confidence in a bag. And thirdly & currently Hydro K from ABS....

We were using the original scopex squid livers as "testers" back in the 90s and rinsed many waters with it with ease. Sadly when foot and mouth hit we noticed a decline in results that were noticeable by a mile. I spoke with Gary at Nash and he said that the screening on most fishmeals now due to changes in base ingredients was responsible for the decline. He couldn't get the raw ingredients he used to be able to due to government legislation. A shadow of its former self sadly. It was a really incredible bait back in its day.

Fine mate tbh. Nothing as pungent as thr normal Hells. As a rule now i sort all baitworks baits in the gazeebo.

Cheers to others for comments. Was hard going, had to work hard changing rigs and baiting little an often.

Shame about lockdown. Feel gutted about the prospect of no fishing when i finally have two great cold water baits.

Bread. By a country mile.

Can fish on the surface, zigged, on the deck. Works in all weather conditions / seasons / clear or murky water. Easy to add flavour. Easy to crumb for groundbait. Easy to cut to size, shape etc.

And a damn sight cheaper than the latest boilie craze.

Have you found with the pineaphella the colour leaches out and makes them hard to handle (dies your fingers). I got a pot of the very early ones and the pop ups have gone orange. No such problem with wafters and had success on both.

Aqua bait hot shrimp. Was lucky enough to use it before it became available to the public, and have continued to use it ever since. All my big uk fish have all fallen to it.
Second to that maggots and caster, but that is generally goes in with hot shrimp to some degree be it crumb chops or whole.

Not sure about best, basing it on length of time used, and boilies only.

1 Nutrabaits BFM, used it from probably when it came out or near to it (late 80's/early 90's) until 2007, started on Cranberry flav, also used Scopex, Raspberry, but my fav Leepex. Cranberry did the most fish but by god was the LPX version good in the time used.

2 DNA S7, used since it came out, total confidence, may even use with a different flavour at some point to be 'different'.

3 Perhaps a odd one but after returning from a break in fishing of 5 years I didn't fish enough to warrant a freezer bait. Having dabbled with Solar Banoffee way back when and loving it, the nearest Shelf Life alernative at the time was Dynamite Baits Banana Nut Crunch which I used until S7 was released and I was fishing more regularly, again DB BNC a very good bait for me for the use.

There are other flavours & boilies which I rate above the top 3 but haven't used in earnest, when I say earnest I mean for years at a time, original RH Scopex, Richworth Tutti, RH Mulberry. I still always have some Tutti and Scopex hookbaits/pop ups in the bag even if it's not the same. As for boilies, so very nearly started using Carp Company Icelandic Red all those years ago, a very good bait at the time too.

Why didn't I go back to NB BFM? t the time price and availability, must say the BFM Krill has peaked my interest but like a lot of others I've moved on and don't need a alternative as I'm happy with S7.

Push come to shove and I had to stake my life on it, best bait overall would be a worm or a maggott.

Lea valley baits - a dark red fishmeal with plum zing. .
Mainline - essential opal
Essential - b5 shellfish plum
Three baits id take to any water in the world.
Single hookbait would be proper job squid and octopus white 11mm, deadly

PRB for consistency

Fruit Frenzy for confidence

I often used all 3 together mixed up, but always fish PRB on the hook/hair/screw

You'd be better off using rough coated leads and keeping them submerged in a pot of concentrated dip when not in use.

Change your lead each time you re-chuck.

Not a fan of paste around the lead.
Wrap it around a hookbait or a spiral hair spring thing.

Best or works on the most waters for me & my current bait - Essential B5

However have total confidence in ABS Malarkey as well.

Used to love Trigga and Big Fish mix when Bill was the head honcho. Only changed to the other baits when Nutrabaits went downhill.

Mine are

Dynamite sweet chilli tuna
Mb baits snail and shell
Essential b5
Richworth tutti
Mainline test bait done well for years on that
Tiger nuts
Worm
Maggots
Bread
Sweetcorn
Pellet

Pop ups
Richworth tutti
Solar top.banana
Mainline pineapple juice
Specialist hookbaits s1
Ccmoore belechan hookers

You cannot put this in one bait depending on season day conditions temp barometric pressure ph and so on

Atm using scientific baits and catching its more location and a decent bait that works than getting caught up with change to this and that

Do ya self a flavour and not fall into the bait trap find a bait supplier at a good price test it on tank fish so your confident they eat it. I have always done it on a few and then pick the best some are more attractive than others and you need hard hookers as small fosh will smash them and find your way

Sadly two of my favourite baits are no longer available after the Bait and Feed Co fiasco, Smokey Mackeral and Smokey Bacon.

Those 2 baits accounted for a lot of carp from Nazeing Meads, I had a number of good years on those 2 baits.

The other favourite was when Nutrabaits was Bill Cottam run, Homemade Trigga, with Liver Elite, Sweet Cajouser, and GLM Extract.

Pre Nutrabaits, New Concept baits Mariner Mix gave me a lot of fish as well.

Sadly none of them are the same or available.

Currently I'm catching well on Rod Hutchinson KMG and Monster Crab

1 - Maize

2 - Sweetcorn

3 - Nutrabaits Techni Spice Pop Up (not used them in years, they only remained a pop up for the first hour & after that they quickly became a bottom bait, but they always put fish on the bank when a blank was on the cards!)

Proper job squid and octopus in white have been doing it for me this year, but not had enough bank time to get a place on my list yet

Once had 13 fish on the same Richworth Tutti, same hook too.

The single best boile I've ever used, shouldn't of thrown it in the hedge at the end of the day thinking about it now.

All my fish in the last two/three years have come on either sticky pop ups or one of my own hookbait mixes. I’ve recently made the decision going forward that I will only be using my own hookbaits. I’ve been playing with them on and off for quite a while now and I’m at the stage with them that I know they can get me pick ups from any of the waters I fish, so I figure why not, at least I know what’s in them.

I've tried plenty over the years but keep returning to my mate's coconut baits.
He knocks them up for a fiver a kilo, and has tweaked them for me to finally arrive at what suits my regular venue (nice and white to stand out against the silty bottom).

What is the number 1,2 and 3rd baits you have total confidence in whether it’s over a bed of bait, cast to a showing fish as a single or pub chucked.

Mine have to be mainline pineapple juice, tutti frutti, fruitella all soaked in a whole bottle of there matching neat concentrate.
