wow

Never heard that version of Stairway before and my head is blown. Absolutely brilliant - actually brought a tear to my eye with that one.

I saw Page and Plant on the tour they did for the 'No Quarter' album with the full on arabian orchestra - Kashmir never sounded better.

When I was in my early 20's I did some occasional work at a recording studio up in Cumbria (pretty much worked for pizza, studio time and to watch and learn). Francis Dunnery of 'It Bites' fame was doing some guitar tracks there for an album he was doing some session work on. So he's in the studio recording one day and I'm on phone duty. A call comes through for him and I say 'sorry, he's in the studio at the minute, can I give him a message and get him to call you back?'
The well spoken voice on the other end says 'Yeah that's fine. Just tell him Planty called and the tracks sound great so far.'
Turns out 'Planty' was of course Robert Plant his royal self. When I found out I'd spoken to him I had to have a sit down!

As for Heart - great band. Surely responsible for one of the top 5 power ballads ever ....

Play it loud and feel your heart breaking man!

I love 60's music, well the good stuff anyway including what you've mentioned.

I've got some 70's prog rock and AOR but it's consigned to the loft nowadays got fed up with guitar, drum and everyone else wanting to do a solo.

Gonna show my age now...We went to see the Everly Brother(s) on that famous tour when Phil (or was it Don?) was "unwell" (aka drying out). The sole Brother did an amazing job with a bit of help from IIRC Chet Atkins. The Big O (Roy Orbison) was on the same bill. Saw The Beatles at the Astoria in December '65 and Manfred Mann, Rolling Stones and others at Bromley Court in '63/'64. The first record I bought was Cathy's Clown by the Everlys!

Nowadays I listen mostly to vinyl albums from my youth and later life, Dylan, Supertramp, Zepplin, Floyd, Genesis, Doors, CSN &Y, and so on. Also a huge Mark Knofler/Dire Straits fan. Recently been listening over and over again to this:

Heart - Stairway to Heaven

...and this:

The Parting Glass

(Volume up to "nuclear" levels, especially for the outros)
