Going to have to cancel those flights to Barbados

I apologise, it was likely my fault as any horse I touch turns to glue!

Appreciate the tip though Mark, it was certainly a mover but that's horse racing.

I certainly did but only managed to get 18s , started well yesterday , 2 2nds and 2 1sts in a 4 way accumulator. Got 3 today and that one so fingers crossed. In for a 2K payout if they come off.

Quote.... "But one at a price worth backing for a pound or two each way is 'Sa Fureur'. It runs in the Coral Cup tomorrow at 14.50. It's 25-1 with bet365 right now who are paying 7 places for the e/w. 14-1 with most other bookies who are paying 4 or 5 places. That is big value. It's the horses handicap debut, but the shrewd trainer G Elliott would not be bringing a novice for this race, if he did not believe the horse was extremely well handicapped. Best jockey in the race onboard. 25-1 is well worth a pound or two of your money right now. Back it e/w. This horse, will very likely get gambled I'd imagine."

I hoped you backed it Carl. That horse, is now virtually favourite at 17-2 with Betfair sportsbook and shortening by the hour. I have a lot of money on it at 25-1. I am now being offered a 41% return on every bet I have placed on this horse, without any risk, before it even runs. That will only rise as it shortens even further. 41% ROI in 24 hours (if that's your thing) is massive. It takes A LOT of money to move a market at Cheltenham that much. That race will be in the top ten betting turnover races of the year.

The stable clearly fancy this thing massively, and the bookies are worried. Game on. Now the horse just needs to do its part.

I really am going to disappear now as mentioned yesterday. I hope you all catch bundles over the coming weeks

Nail on the head Paul. I said at the time I wished they had claimed the record, for exactly the reasons you stated... That was long before I even knew that it was one of our customers who had caught it too.

But I salute the lake owner and the captor, because clearly neither of them wanted all the hassle that goes with it. I've never physically spoken to either man about this. So to a certain extent I am only guessing... But they clearly for whatever reason did not think that the fish should become the British record. You can't argue with an angler having principles. You can't argue with a lake owner having principles. Some don't.

Who really needs a list anyway? We as carp anglers all know.... That is all that matters. That capture, is the heaviest/biggest carp ever landed in the UK. It was witnessed by many people. It was a very special carp, from a proper lake.

I don't get it Mark. Yatesy's redmire 51 was spawn bound and everyone seems happy with that? The two Duncan Kay's records (same fish) were also spawn bound. A fish weighs what it weighs. It's just facts, not merit or even opinion should come into play. The current record committee came into being as the previous one rejected Chris Yates' record and now this one sits as judge and jury. I think the fact it wasn't claimed is a shame. This fish would have smashed the record away from holme fen and the avenue and put it out of reach for a long long time. They're coming up with weird rules now around banning claims for fish being fed solely on anglers baits and stuff. They're a joke. Like all these things it becomes political.

I have no clue if would be accepted or not mate. They did not even try though. I salute them for that. What is right, is right... What is wrong, is wrong.

That code of ethics, is ingrained into carp fishing, and it should never be forgotten.

It was the heaviest carp ever caught in the UK. But it is not the British record.

I remember that happening I just didn’t realise it was that carp, now you mentioned it I definitely recognise it. Very good of him not to claim it though, when it happened I’m sure I read somewhere on Facebook that it wouldn’t be accepted anyway because it was spawn bound?

That is the fish, that a few years later was to become the biggest carp ever banked in the UK Rich at 83lb4oz. It was called the 'big plated'. It was spawn bound, and unfortunately died not long afterwards. The captor, was also one of our long term customers, who has never wanted any publicity. He never tried to claim the British record. He never hoisted it up for any photos. The fishery never pushed him to claim the British record. That carp, was absolutely incredible and so hard to even put on the bank... It would often go missing for years on end, it was without question the hardest carp in the lake to catch.

Remember what is written above, if the British record ever gets broken by anything dubious and was accepted. 83lb4oz was actually the biggest UK carp ever caught on rod and line.
