For me, probably my hybrid compact patriot/singlez pod which I put together by accident and also a 20 year old greys platinum 12ft rod quiver which has a hood along with individual sleeves. The best rod protection I have ever seen.

I have the c.b net 6+3 too excellent , and a Trangia system , mine is the 25 hard anodised with gas conversion. Wouldn't be without that.

Shelter wise the Tempest Brolly once they put vents in the back.
Luggage wise I like the size and design of the Thinking Anglers Rucksack
Defiant MPS titanium bank sticks with the stainless coach bolt tips.
Chris Brown 6+3’ net
Solar needle that sh*ts bait stops.
Nevs on Nev swan necks
Trangia 27 cook kit probably takes the Swedish biscuit though..

I gave my nephew my Quattro pod, will miss that too I'm sure. Agree on the Solar back rests. Never found a catapult I could get on with, throwing stick for me,although now have to use after dusk as flying rats make it pointless in daylight.

I am not a cricket fan no. I do occasionally watch the ashes, but that would be it. But I will read it thank you, as I like knowledge about things that I struggle to understand.

I do know from my own life, that holding onto the past is incredibly counter productive. You cannot change the past, only ever the future. So there really is not much point worrying about it.

I do not want to derail another thread, I will read it tomorrow thank you. It’s only 18:30 here. Already pitch black. Been dark an hour. Off out on the razzle dazzle later

Not sure if you are a cricket fan Mark, but read an interesting article on Mitchell Johnson’s career on the BBC pages over the weekend. He struggled with mental health issues with drops in form, eventually becoming a figure of ridicule for the England fans despite his talent.

Then he heard the ‘let it go’ song from the Disney film his daughter was watching and took it as his mantra whenever things got on top. He then went on become man of the series and go down in history as one of the most destructive fast bowlers in Ashes history. Interesting read if you’re on the beach.

Perhaps stupidly I've moved all these on but they've been replaced with equally well designed replacements . . .in order of design brilliance

1 - Fox RX Digitals - 20yrs bullet proof service replaced by Delkim TXIDs
2 - Trakker Ultralite - brilliant, versatile 1man shelter replaced by Aqua Ultralite 100
3 - Fox Quattro Pod - solid, versatile pod replaced by Jag Super Compact Adjustable

Primus kettle - still going strong
Fox Digital Scales (originals) - still going strong
Atomic T Pult - still going strong

Other honourable mentions - Carptechnics SB3 / Tournament 5000Ts / Stow bobbins / Delkim line clips / Solar P1 backrests / Trakker NXG luggage / Rigmarole CamH20

More recent kit - Ridgemonkey Choppa / Nash Power Metro / Korda Kontainer system

Best designed kit I’ve ever had would be the spools on original long cast bait runners from Shimano. Allowing me to fish 550m out, when everyone else can only fit 270 yards on their Tournies

Solar SP bed chair. Simply brilliant. Heavy, bulky, but jeez it’s a great nights kip.

I had a lovely day since our conversation this morning Nick. I hope you did too. That was early this morning. For someone who is intimidated, you sure can hold onto things. I am going to buy some Delkim ST online right now this very second. Right now. If I agree to do that. Can we just shake hands over the internet and let this go now? ❤️❤️

One is most definitely not designed as fishing tackle, but is luggage related, my 120l British Army Bergen. I used it for probably 10years.
Actually still alive, but now updated to a Molle rucksack, which I think in terms of ease of use and pockets is even better.

In terms of fishing tackle, I'd struggle to come up with an item as I get the wanderlust and urge to change, although the best lasting item is my Delkim ST's which were from about 2000. A good design that lasted, without needing to be updated.

Theres a few bits, but like you, I gave one bit away to my neighbours son as he was starting out, but immediately regretted it. Mine was a chub vantage framed carryall. It had a tubular aluminium frame so wasnt too heavy, and an aluminium lid that flipped over to make a bivvy table, or, it could be lft the right way up with a padded flap that went over the top turning it into a make-do seat. Had levelling legs so could get it dead flat. The front was perfectly sized for a large fbox, and the front pocket concerteanered out so you could get access to the inside of the carryall without disturbing what was on the table top. Was the perfect height next to the bed-chair as well. If I could find an as-new one Id buy it in a heart beat.

Next my Coleman exponent pan set, its a frying pan, large and smaller saucepan, and my primus kettle fits perfectly inside the lot, making a lovely compact cooking/brew kit, and theres two lids as well. They stopped making these too, and like the first item, if I found some Id buy them as spares in a heart beat. They did two sizes, the one I have is the larger of the two.

Jag stage stands - awesome bit of kit, and design wise they have a built in screwdriver so you dont even need to take one of those either - a well thought out bit of kit, perhaps a little heavy in 316, but will out last me thats for sure.

Cobb cooker - brilliant bit of kit for the would be bank side chef - you can cook anything on it - even a full-on roast dinner.

I recently gave a load of my carp gear to my nephew as he is really getting into the hobby now. One of the items I gave him was my free spirit rock steady jumbo holdall. I have to admit of all the stuff I gave him this was the only one I demurred over. For me it is one of the best designed carp fishing items I have ever owned.
Made me think, what is the best designed bit of kit you have bought.
