I bet just pointing this out will probably give some people the urge to call for my banning from the forum... we'll see.
These types of comment always makes me laugh.
"These days if you say you're English, you'll get arrested and thrown in jail"

In reply to Post #26 Pretty sure no one was imprisoned for expressing concerns about immigration levels. On the other hand if you're stiring up racial hatred and inciting violence then you only have yourself to blame.
Anyway back to Penners. His views aren't the problem, what is a problem is a well know career angler with a media presence and sponsors to keep happy, arguing with rando's on social media. It's frankly unprofessional.

In reply to Post #26 I think that's part of the problem - people on the "extreme" ends are as bad as each other. If you don't agree with an alternative view you are accused of being establishment. "Do your own research" they say - which is normally from some non-peer reviewed stuff posted on YouTube or Google (or worse!) by someone who has no expertise in a subject, but has just read other non-peer reviewed stuff off Youtube or Google (or worse!) posted by someone who has no expertise in a subject. And if still don't agree, the legion of followers will all say you're a sheep (whilst blindly following the narrative from whoever they agree with...... like sheep)
I blame social media. And Kool Aid. And the Deep Bait (eh Wayne )

In reply to Post #24 nah i've not seen anyone request that he be put to death, just talking generally about how some people react to hearing stuff they dont like. Recently there was a man who was a labour councilor calling for the throats of his opponents to be slit. That kinda stuff....
the establishment narrative on various topics, here are some examples:
1. Covid Jabs = Safe and Effective, to speak to the contrary was very much "frowned upon" - i remember seeing people be demonized as Anti-Vaxxer, and how they should be shunned from society, be treated as a 2nd class citizen etc etc.
2. Recent Riots/Protests: Some absolute morons decide to loot lush and greggs and they deserve whats coming, burning of hotels as well, vile behaviour also BUT if you dare express concern about immigration levels in the UK on social media, you are a white supremacist, no nuance, nothing... Prison time for you...
Those are just examples of "approved establishment narratives" off the top of my head, i have no idea on Adam's stance on everything nor will be defending any of his stances, not my place to.
Just pointing why I think there is controversy surrounding him.
I bet just pointing this out will probably give some people the urge to call for my banning from the forum... we'll see.

In reply to Post #23 Just asking.... what exactly is the establishment narrative?

|

In reply to Post #23 Nobody is saying he should be put to death for believing the world is flat. Just that he's a plonker who loves the sound of his own voice and isn't as smart as he thinks he is.

The only reason I see controversy surrounding Adam is because he discusses view points on topics which fall outside of the establishment narrative.
Some people are able to listen to other view points and get on with their lives, some people are so greatly affected by a view point that challenges their own, they would sometimes call for them to be censored, permanent incarceration, or death in some cases, of those individuals.
The later is crazy to me, people who seek to silence others have nearly always been on the side of evil through out history.
He's a good angler, he's responsive on social media and has always offered advice when I've asked him.

In reply to Post #15 Do you think everything is a conspiracy theory or some of it could be true?
Moon landings, Jabs messing up your body etc etc.. 🙂

I've met him several times at various shows and events. I've always found him polite and friendly and not at all up himself. He fished a water that I have a ticket for and I've never heard anyone slagging him off. So I speak how I find. I don't have twitter so I can't comment about any stuff outside of angling, I quite enjoy his relaxed style of videos, not all bruv and geez etc etc.

I met him once on Trilakes years ago, seemed a decent enough bloke, I don't understand the interest these people garner, or the disdain.

I'd like to see his reaction if he came on my water and said hello. I'd be polite and chat to him if I wasn't too busy but he would probably think I'm a bit rude as I wouldn't acknowledge any of his ‘fame'.
I wouldn't be being rude but quite simply I wouldn't recognise him, along 95% of the vloggers, bloggers, podder's, grifters, influencers, media whores or wannabe's.
Just the way it is
