Terry Edmonds is a great casting coach, and long distance caster. However I wouldn't take his advice on buying a rod. Casting a rod I will hang on every word. I've learnt a lot from watching his vids. Funny how every new rod is the best ever, yet people long for the stuff made years ago.

Was in a tackle shop today to compare the Flex to 3.25 C2's and picked up a Kaizen Green to see how it compared and I thought it felt better than both the Harrison and Century rods!

So without hating DF, Korda or their fans is there any one got any feedback on these these in real life because £ 350 for 3 rods rather than each would leave a lot of money in the bank for bait or towards a decent ticket?

Cheers

I didn't elude to comparing what he can do to all other anglers that's why I said would do a job for "some" he's not the only angler capable of casting big distances there are plenty of anglers that can cast a lead that may only have a small budget that could make the most of a rod like this, theres also plenty that can afford top end custom builds that still couldn't cast past 100 yrds horses for courses and all that.

Terry put a bare lead 170 yards on a 9ft scope. I think comparing what he can do to a normal person could do is a bit useless

I watched a Korda shorts clip of Terry Edmonds on Instagram at the weekend casting 10' foot 4lb greens as he'd been asked how far he could cast them in a fishing situation.

He setup with tapered Longchuck 12 to 30lb a 4oz distance lead with a baited rig and banged them out into a very strong headwind, he wrapped up at 25 then 28 then 30 and hit all those on the clip easily finally after 3 chucks at 33 wraps on his 3rd attempt he hit the clip, I would imagine without the headwind as it was blowing quite well and easy to see that he would of done 33 wraps quite easily as well and probably gone a fair bit further although he did add he didn't feel comfortable at the upper range and would advise stepping up to the 12 foot in that scenario for anything more where range was important when trying to get further, for a bottom end rod they look like they would do a job for some on a tight budget in all lengths and test curves.

Just to follow this up, I picked up a set of the 12’ 4lb greens last week and tried them out today. For comparison, I normally use a set of century NCS 12’ 3.5lb.

Casting wise, very good indeed even with my crap technique. I had a couple of fish to mid twenties and they are fine under the tip and at the net, though I’m sure I was being overly cautious.
Cosmetically, they are fine, understated, not offensive. As a tool to cast a long way for little money, they are certainly worth look.

For 120 quid, I’m impressed.

You sure your rods are actually aviators!?

Imo the proper kaizens aren't a patch on a set of aviators.

Also, my rod builder has some real reservations about the quality of the blanks and fittings (particularly reel seat spacers) after rebuilding two sets (although they were because of customer preferences, not failures etc)

The only other person I know rates the kaizens over the aviators is Terry Edmunds, and his alliances change with the wind. Unbelievable caster but he is to rods, what Jim shelly is to bait.

Anyone bought these yet? I’m thinking of the 12’ 4lb for long range bag work.

Agree you don't have to spend tons of money....but with all due respect, although there are some very good budget rods around, (I personally love the Shimano TX2) you know the difference.

Each to their own though!

I’d agree and disagree with that. Some casting rods perform way better than others. But I’d do the same. Only because if I was fishing stupid ranges week in week out I’d rather blow up a set of £300 rods than £1300.

And the abuse they take id happily push the cheaper rods to there limits. But if money was no object I’d use the better material and better tool for the job.

Don’t get me wrong, I was also under the impression that you had to pay a guy in a shed £1300 to get three good casting rods. I’ve paid that or around that for several sets of rods over the years. I’d never tried a cheap set of casting rods.

All I’m saying is that for long range *casting* these £120 rods perform at least as well and in my case I found them better.

To get tackle that does a great job you don’t have to spend tons of money these days. If you want to be flash it’s always going to be more expensive.

In this case yes, as I already have a set of Aviators. As a tool to cast a baited rig beyond 120/30 yards the cheap Kaizen are (in my experience) a better rod than the Aviator. The rings are junk, they don’t have a tarty weave, but they will put a lead a long way accurately and easily.

As I said earlier, I was in a field, so didn’t play a fish, but a load of old cobblers is spoken about fish playing action too.
