In reply to Post #674 There is a gulley and a couple of bars that run from about 3 rod lengths off the Island back towards the point at 19 that are worth finding.
Edit: Is there many on and if not, what pegs are still available?

Tips for swim 8 would be hugely appreciated.

I’m going over to fish Heron in a couple of weeks time, any ideas as to how it’s fishing?
Are there any specific areas the fish hold up in at this time of year?

Strangely quiet here this week, only about 15-20 people on the whole complex. Kingfisher and frog have nobody on at all

In reply to Post #666 Whilst I don't have anything to do with the complex other than the occasional catch up call and annual visit anymore, I can categorically state that there are NO fish movements between the lakes on the complex..
The lakes are being stocked with a handful of fish from the other lakes belonging to the family in the area. The same way that the complex was originally stocked in the beginning!
With regards to Dave, give the man a chance. He came in with less than a week's notice to open the season on time for Seb (and that included moving country in that time too)!
He's a bloody nice bloke with a great track record at another well known complex in France, he just needs to find his feet ffs.. After doing the same job for a few years I can tell you it took me 2 solid winters (8 months) of walking the site with a marker rod, pen and paper to do the original maps to aid everyone visiting and even then there was no guarantee they'd be correct once the weed came up!
I'm also certain that once he's got his daily workload into some semblance of order, he'll make a start on clearing the waters one by one. I'm here now and I've seen both he and his Mrs walking about with a bin liner on more than one occasion.
As for Attila not being a 'runs' water, you may be correct in the true definition but it offers a far better chance of a 20+ fish week than the others on site, so by Abbey standards it is. None of these lakes are to be considered bagging waters, that is half the appeal to most of their repeat anglers. The rewards ARE there if you approach the lakes correctly though.... As will be the failures if the weather is off, the fish have just had a feeding spell and/or they took a bit of a hiding the week before, I'm afraid. I'm fishing my bits off at the mo. I'm as keen as I've been for years, I've got every conceivable gadget (plus some 5yr old maps) and the blokes in my swim have rinsed it dry for the previous 2 weeks, Dave had 8 the night before I arrived, yet even with all the tools at my disposal, I've struggled to reach the heady heights of 4 and a loss in 48hrs. Despite the fact I've got nearly every fish in the lake held up between myself and the peg opposite (who's blanking)
C'est la vie....

In reply to Post #666 To be fair the website does say from 8am? Think the bailiff is new too as when I booked last year to go this year his name was Steve, its now a guy called dave so that would explain why he wasn't overly clued up as yet and also why you were told mail nearer the time. Litter etc isnt on though, hopefully they have a clear up before we go later this year. Weren't any toilets other than the main block last time I went so that's an improvement

In reply to Post #665 hi guys
so I thought I would give a bit of info on abbey lakes and its with mixed feelings I wright this as abbey regulars will be im sure disappointed but feel people should at least know a little more than whats being said/told.
well weve been to the complex on a few occasions now and fished all the lakes on the complex bar frog lake and caught fish from all that weve fished. we have really enjoyed previous occasions but after our last trip there this year it will sadly be our last time to the complex.
we decided we would fish attilla this time around and I opted to try find out some info which was tricky as there doesn't seem to be too much on the lake, I emailed abbey which I had done before on previous occasions and had received great info and feedback, but this time round I was told "email closer to the time"(may 2018), so I did this and was told "yeah theyre coming out all over", that was it, not really very helpful but hey ho.
so off we headed, now I also want to add that a few weeks ago abbey put a facebook post up about "not bothering to get to the lake before 10am as that's when you can start" or something along them lines (buckets or gear in the swims or something), well this isn't true, the office opens at 8am and once you've signed in you can then go to the lake, there were a lot of new guys who even asked the bailiff about the time thing to which he replied you've signed in now so now you can go fish. now come 10am when other people start turning up imagine there disappointment at the guys who have turned up early and got on early, these poor buggers are be palmed off in swims out the way or away from the fish as the early lot were let on, its a bit naughty really, so abbey need to put things right there its either 10am for everyone or 8am for everyone.
now on atilla you really see that they don't care as much about this lake and the smaller less known lakes other than fox and heron. fox and heron are clearly there main draw for the complex both lakes hold enormous fish but its like the other lakes are not bothered with now, for example fox and heron are littered in toilets for the punters whilst atilla's 1 toilet is still shared on the heron lake side but is miles away from all the other swims on there, if your in peg 9 on atilla then good luck, the back of wildboar doesn't have one either, fishing atilla peg 9 is full of poo in the bushes. also the swims are filthy on atilla, I filled up a bin liner of rubbish I collected in my peg in 30 mins it was grim.
when the bailiff walks around and you ask him any info on the swims ie features he may know of or anything but he replies "I don't know" its a little worrying (isn't that his job to learn and know the lakes on the complex??), some of the poor fellas were blanking, struggling, they've paid a lot of money travelled along way and need some help and all they get is "I don't know", its not really good I really felt for these guys and im not sure if the bailiff is really there for the better of the complex, he really upset a few of the lads fishing with the little help he gave and they admitted they wont be coming back to abbey either..
another thing which I didn't agree with is the bailiff turns up and says oh I think im gonna jump on and fish tonight, now maybe this is me but if a paying punter is fishing a lake and lets be honest most people go to france to catch a special fish, if the bailiff then catches said special fish then your chances to catch that again in the limited time you have there is slim to none, I really don't think a bailiff should be fishing a lake of paying punters but that's just me. maybe he should fish it when no one is on the lake, just an idea. then again maybe the current bailiff also needs to learn about the lakes on the complex he works and realise that not everyone is fishing fox or heron.
another thing is the website needs updating, advertising attilla as a runs water is a little misleading, atilla isn't a runs water guys, so many guys turn up there for a bend in the rod and runs, when in fact many people blanked or caught 1 or 2 fish in a so called stock of 450 carp (rumours of good upcoming carp being taken out of the other lakes on the complex to bulk stock levels in fox and heron did do the rounds) any answers on said rumors abbey? anyone have any pictures to prove said rumors? anyway maybe advertise wildboar or frog lake as a runs water might be better fitting. I just felt that people should know any info and I can only put my experiences and others on the same time across.

In reply to Post #662 There are boats there already mate, or there were last time I went anyway. You wouldn't want to fish kingfisher without one, the weed can be horrendous
