In reply to Post #39 My memory was sparked, a quick delve into my A4 folders of interesting things in A4 sleeves from yesteryears magazines.... bingo - an article in Carpworld - The Terry Hearn Tapes, a 6 or 7 part series.
Found a advert from Cotswold baits it was Owner Chris Nicolaou and Brian Parker.

In reply to Post #37 First time I saw M-Tech mentioned was by Rob Maylin saying it was a good bit of bait to Terry Hearn, that was around the time he was fishing Sonning Eye and baiting heavily by the rucksack load to feed off the monster shoals of bream, then switched over to M-Tech dabbled with it for a bit, probably cost DT a small fortune in boilies, then went back to Dynamite.

In reply to Post #35 The recipe for the M-Tech was published in the Osprey Specimen Group & Friends book however there were a few things they missed out -

They also included a highly concentrated version of what is now Dynamite Baits Fish Gutz and the quoted 15g of betaine hcl.
The enzyme was called Digest-Ade and I used to be able to source it but not anymore.
Digest-Ade was originally introduced into the bait world via Cotswold/DT Baits. At that time it was only used in one bait called the M-Tech. The M-Tech basemix consisted of very high quality milk proteins and fishmeal which needed the Digest-Ade, especially in the winter, for the carp to utilise and digest the bait better.
It is a proteolytic enzyme-prepared through submerging of selected bacterium . The main component is Substilisin-a, a endoproteinase of the serine type. Recommended for human grade food. This has an active life of minimum 12 months.
Works well in ph levels 5.5-8.5 It does not need to be triggered, and you can actually see the protein breaking down.
Digest-ade helps to break down the protein chains turning them into free flowing aminos which the fish find easier to digest. To get the best from Digest-Ade then keep boiling times to an absolute minimum. You are looking for a bait with a soft, paste like centre, but a skin on the outside.
The original also included a flavour called Fish Frenzy which smelt highly of ammonia. Again almost impossible to find.

"I m a great believer in using Betaine HC1 not because of its attraction qualities, but as an aid to the digestive process. The hydrochloric acid portion of this product helps breakdown proteins and aids trypsin digestion. It is also very water soluble so it can be used comfortably at moderate levels. In fish meal based baits I will use this product at this time of the year up to a level of 20g per 500g of dry mix. In any bait that has a high milk protein content I will reduce that by about 25%. This is mainly due to the bait texture; milk protein baits have a tendency to form a tighter structure and absorb water at a lower rate."

following the feed science- 2-2.5% betaine anhydrous was the optimal inclusion when soya meal is used as a fishmeal replacement.

In reply to Post #25 Like you, Just surprised it is in print, by someone in the know, rather than us thinking it was high in semo/soya flour 😀 back in the day.
Are what we may nowadays class as high carb content Maize/semo/soya flour baits really that bad ?
The overall bait is probably 25-30% protein, and some FLAA, Richworth had a great base model that rolled well through the machines and like many others it is all about the powder and liquid attractors doing the business, slightly tweaked for different versions. Globally they all caught loads of fish.
I bet quite a few proven wonder baits nowadays haven't got the expected nutritional ingredient content what with 'scientific feed information' being the way to go, baits being around 35 or 36% protein, often less, and with costs rocketing.
All about the attractors on an average base mix.
