This one had serious issues with me lol but I’ve fished here for 12 years now since moving back and never caught it and being told a few times “it only gets caught up the top end and on a pink pop up” that’s why I do my own thing never follow others and done rather well on there with around 6/7 20’s and numerous fish just under that figure.
The lads are ok I’ve made some good friends but you get the odd piss head down had one the other day fell asleep with a big bottle of whisky and then asked me to wake him up next day at 7 as he had work lol,but you know I’ve fished town centres canals and other public waters and canals and had issues, and other canals or lakes where I’ve had to walk and never had issues here.

Glad I got off the mark with the first fish doesn’t matter about the size it’s great to be outside no matter what the weather throws at you

Great result mate and a target fish to boot, got to be happy 😎 👍
I've always found grasses to be very accommodating in hot conditions where other Carp just turn off, not so much fun in the net though 😂

Thanks mate really really happy with the session
The small common saved a blank but the grass carp was the highlight as it don’t come out often and when it does it’s at the top end

Just thought I’d share what’s happened on a 3 day session I’m on and packing up in few hours time, well I love fishing public waters so I’m on a local lake with around 6-7 swims and other side almost unfishable unless you walk round with a rod,not ideal for few days session though, anyway the water is 99% commons with a few small mirrors, biggest common is 27lb which is the top weight I’ve had it at,there’s lots of fish mid doubles upwards with some back up 20’s and a grass carp of around 17/20lb last out at 17lb.
Anyway people have said the grass carp apparently only comes out at top end of lake on pink ups which is very shallow and weedy with a few snaggy islands as well, the water level drops occasionally and then goes back up,so started off in a new swim right down other end and had a carp around 5lb off to a nice start at least I’m not blanking, then decided on my last night move the rods around they are in the water on long bank sticks as the water is very silty sometimes up to your knees in silt,I put one rod over one side up against far bank of trees using my bait boat which I bought this week a mixture is bug and S7 and chops with 1/2 pop up on a water bug dumbbell and then the second rod in a gap of trees right in front of me,now I like to do things different so a mesh bag of micros on each and also pva stringers 1 on each too and plenty of bait over each rod via the boat plus some liquids too and hemp and corn as well.
Well this morning the left hand rod went and I hit it and got it really close in and it’s only the grass carp around 18lb it made me work for it as it kicked off in the net after 3 attempts to net it and then on the matt, then as I was taking pictures my other rod stated to bleep but stopped so got the grass carp back in water after some crap pictures, went to make a brew and the other rod went off,I got the chest waders on and hit it and it went solid so put it on the bars and let the bale arm off, then it started to move so I picked rod up but still wouldn’t budge so done save thing again this time it worked and got it to the net and another common around the 20 ish mark, photos and back in and time for a cuppa.
What I have learnt even though I have fished this place since I moved back to midlands 13 years ago is never listen to what people tell you take it with a pinch of salt and do your own thing, doing something different will maybe make your session one to remember.
Just wanted to share what’s happened as I’m over the moon with the grass carp as it’s one I wanted to catch.
My mom who passed away a year and half ago of which I struggle still to come to terms with she would have been so happy I’ve had a good session.
Now my next target is one of those 30lb mirrors in the canal behind the lake I’m fishing.
Tight lines everyone good luck if your out in this lovely hot weather.
