Supply and demand Fish meal is short ,prices are not going to go up ,they have gone up , by
£400 to £500 per tonne.
Not sure if this is partly due to El Nino , if not then there is likely more increases to come , going by the last El Nino

AI answer
Yes, El Niño is causing fishmeal prices to surge. Warmer ocean waters diminish the nutrient-rich upwellings that pelagic fish depend on, resulting in reduced commercial fishing quotas and fishery closures. This restricted supply has pushed wholesale fishmeal prices to unprecedented highs. The phenomenon has heavily impacted key producing regions, most notably Peru. With supply dwindling, fishmeal prices have reached record levels, frequently cited around the $2,500 to $3,000 per tonne mark. Because fishmeal and fish oil are foundational to aquaculture feed, these inflated ingredient prices are driving up operating costs for global fish farmers. If you would like, I can provide:More details on how this affects specific aquaculture industries (like salmon or shrimp farming).Trends on alternative feed proteins being used to offset costs.Let me know what you'd like to explore further.2 sitesEl Niño’s impact on a fish in Peru could cost you at a seafood banquet2 Jul 2026 — The country's anchovy stocks have been hit by unusually warm Pacific waters associated with a strengthening El Niño, which reduces...The TimesA ‘super’ El Niño has the power to devastate fishing | PreventionWeb17 Jun 2026 — Reduced fishing quotas These days El Niño conditions lead to reduced quotas and fishery closures.

So Kieron How are the companies going to respond to this .......... thats a difficult one to answer isn't it
They can keep their prices the same and sell at a loss ,or they can out their prices up ,
Take a wild guess

Cannot open the link, but it would be no surprise that fishmeal costs will rise, demand outstrips supply, pet food, fertilizer, animal feeds.

Looks like fishmeal prices will be rising again. https://removepaywalls.com/https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2026-07-01/the-world-has-an-anchovy-supply-problem

As always, will be interesting to see how different companies approach this
