I don't know him sorry mate ..

Most of the people I knew came from launceston, Boscastle and other areas ,however I do remember Mike Bolt from Lanson ,and Roger Finnemore from Kelly Bray ,nr Callington ..RF,was sheep farmer, and won master chef ...they were some of Zygs first customers !

They had custom rods ..I remember that !...

Did you ever know a Robin that fished it, think his surname was West, bloody good angler - we were kids but he taught me years worth just watching him fish one day at Zygs on the dam wall

The syndicate was called the 5 c's....Cunning ,Clever ,Carp I forget the rest however, you would have to undergo an initiation ceremony to become involved ..

We all wanted to join it however Clawford ,Tredidon and Mr Sexton took away the disappointment..

RIP Zyg..

Totally Agree. The whole carp scene has become rather vanilla. The characters we do have are sponsored up to the nines and all towing the corporate line.

I believe he used to run a syndicate on his lakes out of the holiday season
And his initiation ceremonys were stuff of Legend. No doubt fueled by copious amounts of his home brew.

Rest easy Zyg..

Angling needs positive characters and he certainly was, did so much for our pastime.

Oh no - my mate and I were his first ever paying guests, he killed us with homemade wine and was a proper character, we went a few years running in the old close season and it was brilliant, I wrote an article for him in one of the early carp catcher magazine.

Unsure if the zig name came from there but you are spot on regards the twins and them using it up against the island at the same depth as the shelf, Christ they were good anglers, real kids back then with their dad who if I remember correctly was mates with Geoff Kemp, to think I had the rig in the early days but didn't use it, my biggest regret and all explained and handed on a plate doh!

Rest in peace Zyg

Very sad, a proper character, if you watched 90's/0's fishing programmes you were bound to see Anglers Paradise featured at some point.

He was definitely a character. Created an amazing complex. I was never sold on his wine though

Apparently so.. the story from what I understand is that the Messenger twins from Essex took the method they used at layer pits in essex. Down to Zygs place and used to great effect. Hence the Zyg rig.. others might remember it differently..

Pioneer of Holiday fishing. Well ahead of his time. Though I never made the pilgrimage. If you needed your fishing fix during the old close season. You headed down to Devon, Cornwall ( no close season ) And Anglers paradise was the venue of choice.

Rest Easy Zyg..
