Wouldn’t the weed just clump to the beads and start of the tubing too? Unless you used a tapered sleeve on the tubing where the mainline is.

Alternative option, use a naked chod, you’re looking at dropping the lead anyway if it gets weeded up, then use a short length of tubing in the same fashion as the Leader was described, this would mean you need to use a drop off bottom bead, the swivel would then run over on to the tubing. Or alternatively shrink tubing?

I’m about to trial chods on tubing using all fox products at the end of the month due to a must have tubing rule. Can’t wait to thread a long length of tubing on to mono 😂 wish me luck!

That would work yes but wouldn't be allowed because technically a leader. The reason they're not allowed is because the type of weed there literally just clumps onto every knot and causes leaders to become dangerous.

I believe Luke Stevenson uses a similar method with his naked chods.

I very rarely fish a heli but a certain venue made it necessary.
To keep things simple i went straight through with the 18lb synchro, but was worried about mainline wear with the hooklength swivel.
I came up with a solution of about 8" of leadcore with the lead removed on the end of the main line. This allows the swivel to slide down towards the lead and safely rest on the lead core.

Dovey was saying on a recent podcast that he was using naked chods on 10lb Daiwa Sensor in the past... But just because it's possible, doesn't necessarily mean it's the best choice..

I would spool up with fluoro personally if you were planning on going naked. IMO the extra durability & properties that fluoro has lends itself to chods & snaggy environments. Probably less of a headache in the long run too..

I use & rate Kontour if your interested.

EDIT: I've just realised that I confused this thread with the "chods over heavy weed" thread, so I've edited my post appropriately.

I'll get my coat, & then probably shoot myself..

I don't like the idea that the strain is directly on mono though that's the reason I don't like it, what's others opinions on that? I know fluoro is better in that respect.

I did manage to put some chods together on tubing after ordering that Heli kit someone posted and then using some thinking anglers chod buffer which fit over the tubing and hold it on place lovely!
But yes it took me about 30 mins to thread them through 🤣 and now I've done it I don't want to take them off 🤣

There's a few company's out there doing tubing helicopter kits or bits to make them up. I've used nash tungsten heli beads for tubing for helicopter rigs. Dont know if they still make them?

You must be planning on using a lot of tubing. Sod threading that
Bad enough with 18 inchs

To behonest if I was you. And couldn't use leaders, I'd go naked..

"Kind of what I want but is that just for use with heli safes as I won't be using them"

Helisafes come with a collar so you can lock it in position to prevent the lead from dropping.

Haven’t used it sorry

I did link to the wrong fox product

Could just cut/take the heli safe off and loop a ring or similar lead connector on and slide a normal sleeve on it as well
Only thing that may happen is the tube may slide up the line
Maybe use a lighter and flare the bottom end of the tubing to stop that happening.

Kind of what I want but is that just for use with heli safes as I won't be using them, suppose I could change the Heli buffer to something standard.
What size tubing is that do you know? To go over the tubing and fit nicely?

Had a look on previous threads and can't seem to find what I'm asking.

Just started fishing a lake with a leader ban so I want to fish tungsten tubing with a chod on due to the weed.
I went in angling direct yesterday purely because they obviously have more stuff than a small local shop, and they didn't have the components to make such a rig, they had lots of tubing but nothing that would fit over it well to secure the beads to the tubing. Is there such a brand that does the whole kit? I'm probably being thick but I only ever really use leadcore for a chod.

I could fish naked chods bit there's lots of rocks and not isre I feel like mainline straight through on a chod is that strong?
