Great report Cam
Funnily enough I think I've only used modern zigs for 1 year possibly around 2015 ish, but I used pop ups at 12' very successfully early 0's.

I've just bought a load of Liquirigs as I like the idea of adding attraction with liquid and paste in the zig, should be interesting 🤔

It was an interesting talk and slideshow. Not a lot you probably hadn’t seen before and no ground-breaking or breath-taking discovery’s although I wasn’t expecting that. I didn’t take any notes so just putting some bullet points of what I could remember was talked about.

Casting
Photos shown of bubbles when lead enters the water without hitting the clip - Looked like a rocket launch.
Hitting the clip stops this a lot.
Best to hit the clip a metre above the water. Think this has been shown on other videos he did with Fox.
Showed various images of rigs after casting underwater and how they were tangle etc by not hitting the clip properly.
Said the marker float was an underused tactics nowadays.

Colours
They change at different depths.
Preferred colours;
Pink
Yellow - Almost disappears. Misconception that Yellow stands out when it’s the opposite
White - more so in the winter than any other season.
Showed images from different depths where different colours change.
Did also say that match the hatch was a good way to go and to do what is working so…..

Zig Fishing
Said it’s a tactic that should be used more as fish are not always on the bottom
Depths of 3rds;
Top Thirds
Middle Third (Tends to ignore this depth)
Bottom Thirds
Preferred colours;
Black
Red
EDIT
Doesn't use adjustable zigs as he found the fish could be more interested in the float than the "bait"

Sunny Days In Winter
Fish will normally be found in the North West corner of the lake.

Camouflage
All to do with silhouette.
Trees behind you, doesn’t really matter.
Clear sky, no background, white. Mention when you see the guy fishing on the top with a white T-Shirt on a clear day. You think he’s standing out like a sore thumb but is probably camouflaged.
This was off the back of looking out from the water.
All to do with water refraction?

Sound
Sound does travel through the water.
Gently noise - not a real issue
Sudden noise (like a loud clap, bait bucket opening) - issue

When he was underwater
Said fish seeked him out, were inquisitive.
Younger ones were more flitty.
Said he had fish following him all the time.
Showed an image from Bundys of the Bent Tail Common, the only fish he saw that day. When he showed that to the members they said that fish hadn’t been out for years and was presumed dead.
A fish called the Snub Nose Common in Kingsbury that followed him around every time he entered the water, almost as if they had become mates.

Three things he said to take out of the talk
1.Hit the clip
2.Hit the clip
3.Recast

The whole slideshow/talk was from his findings, so didn’t take away that this was a “cap fits all” thing.

Main things I came out with was to try zigs as I have never used them, boilie colour and hitting the clip ! 😊

Have to say well done to KDAA for putting this on, and with around 30 members there they can consider it a success. They intend to put other events on in the coming months, not just for carp anglers, so fair play to them.

SL is a few mins walk from me and had no idea it was going on! I'm unable to make it but keen to hear if it's any good Cam. Rob's an articulate presenter isn't he so I'm sure it'll be a good event by the club. Hopefully more of them to come - it's a good sign that there's appetite for these club-run events locally.

Was just wondering if there were any Kelvedon District Angling Association members on here that are going to the ‘Under the Surface’ presentation by Rob Hughes this Friday?

Might be the only post in this thread but thought I'd ask.

It's free to members, so I thought it would be rude not to, also gets me out of the house for a few hours.
