Don't get me wrong they work but the metal plate came off one on my 3rd session then my other cracked not long after. For £20 a pop that's pretty diabolical.

I'm the opposite, went from the korda to fox due to the amount of tangles with the korda and this year been using the ridgemonkey, I've only had a couple of tangles all year which could be on the retrieve but I much prefer the ridgemonkey out of the 3

Until the metal magnetic plates start falling off or they crack. They were the last ones I tried before moving to the korda.
For £20 each they are awfully made.

the ridgemonkey zyggos are spot on, not had any tangles with them as yet, one of the few things I actually rate of rm

Korda large and PVA tape with a lead that has a swivel mate. Ive tried loads of adjustables and the korda large paired with pva tape and a swivel lead (I use a 3.5oz swivel distance or a 4oz dumpy) rarely tangles. Once you start using them regularly you get a feel of how much tension they put on the line and how quickly they peel line off the spool when they are tangled vs when they are not. I can confidently put mine out in pitch black and know if they are fishing or not.
My hooklength is always the distance between my bail arm and my buttring so I use that as my depth gauge which is around 3.5' give or take an inch.

I wish I could find a reliable adjustable zig that I can be sure that works.
I'm never 100% that they actually work. Yes you can still catch but are they at the depth you think you are?

Start about 3 foot down and work the depths

And I never work that accurate but it's about 3 foot each time lol
And that's about reel to eye.

I was on Drayton Reservoir last Friday in the horrible storm. Weather was terrible, but there were lots of carp milling around on the back of the wind with their backs out of the water! I had a few on zigs, all just a couple of foot under the surface in 18 ft of water.

I gave up with zigs I kept foul hooking the carp.

To give an example my local is 40ft in the middle and the margins are steep. This weekend my plan is to fish all 3 on zigs out in the middle at 10, 20 & 30ft and bring them up slowly during the course of the weekend. My summer/early autumn sweet spot has been 7ft down and I've done really well so far.

I'd be starting in the top 3rd and working my way down. They'll be in the thermocline they feel most comfortable in. I fish a water to 18' and they're still very visible on the top and crashing about.
Not zig fishing but I used to fish a deep ressy in Cheshire to 26' iirc and I'd start by working my way down the slope until I found the depth they were moving around at, no different to fishing zigs, odd thing is sometimes in the depths off winter with cold run off coming off the hills it could be 3', even on overcast days.

With what you have described and dependant on weather i would start at the top of the bottom 3rd to start with and work up on a overcast, cold, wet day.
If it was sunnier then i would start in the top 3rd and work down.

I can remember walking on the ice as a kid and seeing carp just below it.
I've also spent a fair bit of time drifting around on boats and have seen plenty of carp in the top third.

so ive used adjustable and caught on them, so confidence isnt an issue, usually in the spring months when the carp are in the upper layers and can be seen or expected to be within the top 3rd of the water column.
Now going into winter on a low stocked water with depths to 29ft in places im wanting to try a zig.
whats your starting point, I usually separate the depth into 3, lower,middle and upper. ill only be fishing it on 1 rod as its 2 rod water so will only be covering the water column with 1 rod.
whats your starting point in winter?? ive heard of stories of fish being aught in winter at 3ft under the surface..
