When terry released the 3rd book and the big hoo haa about crap packaging
I had one of the damaged ones that they replaced so actually have 2 copies of that lol
Still have a load of books in packaging that were bought when released that I haven’t got round to opening yet.

Absolutely right Mark. My son has asked me to list things with an approximate value at some point. I've got a few cased fish and stuffed birds and animals dotted around the cottage. Obviously not to most people's taste, but worth a few quid to the right person.

I would undoubtedly have done the same with that watch as you have lol

I went through my collection last year when I was bored and searched latest sold prices on eBay, came to nearly 3 grand, most have only been rad once.

I did not mean that you purchased them to sell them Andy, or that you keep them like Vossy is speaking about. That's all out collectors who buy them to keep them and likely resell them at some point that do that. But it's still nicer for yourself to find out that your son is going to get a few good bags of sand worth of books, rather than them being worthless & going into landfill. The normal ones among us buy books to read them. It's just a bonus when much later you find out a lot of them are worth up to five or ten times original price.

Only hardcore collectors buy books and keep them wrapped up in clingfilm Vossy. I had a mint copy of Waiting For Waddle that was worth a monkey at the time. I spilled coffee all over mine whilst fishing. Gave that away too. The only book I ever kept in great condition was that contributors copy of SSV1 because I had a normal copy too. I did not even keep my collection, I gave them all away for free as mentioned below. I can't keep anything in nice condition. I purchased a very expensive watch last year after a big win on the gee gees. When I purchased it, I convinced myself it was an investment... It was absolutely fecked in that regard within two months, scratched up wristband. Likely worth a fraction of what I paid for it.

I have both Pete Springate books completely unread, The Micky Gray book with me and Toddy inside holding Thames fish... I think that is the total extent of my collection now. Carp books are viewed by myself as something taking up space. Not something to be hoarded.

Dinny you still owe me a few beers... I'd still love to know what that special edition SSV1 would be worth now. Any book experts know?

I've never bought anything, apart from property, thinking about it's future value and I very much doubt I'll be selling any of my books. It'll be my son that will be rubbing his hands lol.

Same. That’s where most of the reading gets done! I don’t buy books for resale purposes though. Buy them to read and enjoy wherever that may be. I think actually reading print is so much better than on a screen. Something that already seems fairly alien in this day and age!

Do you actually enjoy owning the books though, knowing they need to be within reason, in vgc to get the top prices No dust/light, scratches/tears/dings/marks etc etc, got to read them on a felt pad, wearing gloves, read & repackage, can't smoke or own pets...

and the worse thing, you'll probably not even get a copy because 'collectors' will buy them by the dozen to drip feed the market (I don't blame them though).

My copy of Tels 1st book is in vgc and it actually went on the bank with me I'd of love to get a 1st copy of TTM but the debacle of webbies crashing on release and then books being sold out actually stopped me buying them.
Only book I've bought recently was Bob Roberts Mighty Trent.

Not long re-read urban myth. It is a good book. One I missed out on was nige sharps. I read a mates copy in a weekend years ago but never got myself a copy.
I’ve got loads stashed under the bed in boxes. New house will have a new bookcase for them though. It’ll be a sad day when print is gone forever, can’t beat a proper book imo!

That's the main reason I posted those photos Andy. Pure ****ing shock at what those books are going for. There will be many many people like yourself with big collections licking their lips at what they are worth now reading those eBay listings. You lot are sitting on a fortune.

That was clearly some top end collector. The fact that it's a woman selling them, likely means her husband/partner passed I'd guess.

If I was in the UK right now to accept delivery all those Hutchie books & a couple of others would already be sold. If they are still there when I get back they are coming straight to me.

There's a copy of Tels " Still Searching " for £70 odd quid. As far as I'm aware that's still available as new?

2nd edition is available new. The one below is a signed 1st edition so not far off the mark.

Prices are actually down on books at the moment. Went through the roof during covid, like everything else, but the ones on the bay up for covid prices tend to sit there doing nothing now.

I moved house a month ago and had to box up all my books. Seven big boxes full. Couldn't believe it. They've filled a massive bookcase at the new gaff. Dread to think what they're worth.... loads of rare ones and 1st editions. I still pick most of them up from time to time to have a little browse.

Jeez I've got a few quids worth of books stashed away, although not in the immaculate condition of that seller.
I knew Waddle was worth a fair bit, but some of the others surprised me, especially the Eddie Price book.

Quote... Can't believe the price of them. Some of them seem way of the Mark.

I don't know the value of any of them, but It's absolutely mental. I gave away my unread contributors copy of SubSurface Vol 1 for charity. Dinny the member off here snapped it up. I gave an unread copy of the Urban Myth with a signed inscription in the front saying "Specialized Hook Baits would take over the world" for charity on this forum for Scottweiller. Dinny the member off here snapped that up too. The SSV1 is worth an absolute fortune now being a contributors copy. There were only around 15 or 20 even made. Anyone know how much? The standard SSV1 goes for mega money. Dread to think how much that book I gave away is worth now. Dinny owes me a few beers!

I gave away a load of other old books to some fella off here, he covered the postage. They must all be worth a fortune too now.

Hi Tc actually I was after info rather than the book as I had already sealed a deal on a copy for just over a tenner more. This too is in VVGC ..it arrived today and upon inspection it was all the seller had said it was. No yellowing of page tops, no rippling or denting of dust jacket, spine still pretty stiff and secure. Even a signed dedication to the seller. I'm more than happy with it.. Will prob get read once then found a home on the Angling books bookcase.
Having a look through that list is an eye opener..some v good titles there. Am already on Little Egret mailing list and have had a couple of limited editions off there.

Quote... Given that the seller hasn't given a description of the book that most true booksellers would provide ( only quoted the sleeve/back page) suggests they either don't know what's expected or it might not be as tidy as expected.

I hope it was you who purchased it Andy. Looking at their book collection for sale I'd say that they 100% know what's expected. The rest of those books below are much older, and look immaculate.

Hope you got it, have you feeling you missed out if not.

I sold all my Angling books last year on Ebay as they were making mega money and taking room up in the office, im sure Urban Myth didn't do that well though.

I'm lucky to have a copy by the sound of it! It's a great book and actually one of my favourites.

I guess the decision you need to make is whether you just want a copy to read or a collectible version. I have hundreds of angling books, most carp related, and they have all been read and reread (some like the Urban Myth on multiple occasions). This means that they're a bit tatty but still readable! I have said it on this forum before, I don't understand why some of these out of print books cant be released as a kindle version to increase accessibility? Maybe an opportunity for Terry and others to earn a few more pennies and get their work out to a new audience...

Looking at that seller even more.... They have soooo many older books for sale. Waiting For Waddle. Confessions of a Carp Fisher by BB, Carp Fever... The list is seriously endless.

They all look absolutely mint. That's a very serious collector whoever is selling those books.

There's not even any dents on the edges or corners of that dust cover. Read the sellers feedback. It's exceptional.

That book looks brand new. It's described as in first class condition.

If you want that book like you say that you do, you should go buy that quickly before someone else does. I have books that are absolutely mint inside. None have a dust cover as mint as that there. You can see that has been looked after.

It’s listed in first class condition. By a seller with 100% positive feedback over nearly 1k sales. The dust cover is absolutely mint. Looks brand new.

Not certain what more that you could ask for personally 😂

I thought £63 seemed cheap.. too cheap perhaps? Given that the seller hasn't given a description of the book that most true booksellers would provide ( only quoted the sleeve/back page) suggests they either don't know what's expected or it might not be as tidy as expected.

Just had a look at what's out there £63 seems cheap. Most of the second hand book sellers are asking £150 plus. Ask the seller for more pics. Will give you a better idea of condition.

Just looked at the ad. Only 1 pic of front cover. No description of book itself apart from '1st cass' I person's idea of 1st class isn't always everybody's! Ideally it needs more pics ..back cover, spine ,inside leaf etc. Any discolouration to top of book?? It's all a tad vague tbh

Hi all. As per title
Looking for a copy of Terry Dempseys book. How much should I expect to pay for a good condition copy? Realise there was only 1 print run but don't know how many copies were printed hence it probably commands a premium.
